HClRSE-COLLA R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 308,367,dated November 25, 1884:.
Application filed June 18, 1884.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL L. MGOLANA- HAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Scott, in the county of Bourbon and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horse-Collars, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has relation to improvements in horse-collars; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of the same, whereby the collar may be easily and quickly applied to the horses and securely held in place, all as will be hereinafter more fully ex plained, and particularly pointed out in the claims appended.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrates my invention, in which Figure 1 represents aperspective view of my horse-collar, and Fig. 2 is a vertical sec tion.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the horse-collar, and B B represent re-enforcing pieces of leather, which are secured to the outside to the upper ends of the collar by stitching, as shown, which serve to strengthen said upper ends and prevent the collar from ripping at this point. To one end of the collar, and beneath the re-enforcing piece, is secured one end of a strap, 0, which is provided at the opposite end with perforations D, which receive the rivet or fastening-pin E. This pin E is provided with a head, F, and is inserted from the under side of the collar, and the same is providedwith a washer, G, in order to keep the same firmly in place. There-enforcing piece, on which is placed the rivet or fasteningpin, is provided with an opening, H, through which the fast (No model.) V
the end ofsaid strap is passed within the hold- 5 ing-hook J.
It will be seen from the above description and by reference to the annexed drawings that by my construction of a horse-collar the fastening-strap is so arranged that it is not only easily and quickly operated, but forms a safe fastening for the meeting ends of the collar, and by which means the neck of a horse will be prevented from becoming sore, as the buckle commonly used presents a high object on which the top h-ame-strap presses, and causes it to injure the horses neck, and it is durable, neat in appearance, can be quickly applied to the neck of the horse, as well as quickly detached therefrom, and at the same time is cheap to manufacture.
I am aware that prior to my invention horsecollars have been constructed with re-enforcing pieces and adjustable fastening-straps, and
Itherefore do not claim such a device, broadly;
but,
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
provided with the slit H near the upper end, whereby a loop is formed to receive the strap 0 and retain it in. position on the pin E, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in 75 presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL L. MOCLANAHAN. Vitnesses:
O. A. CHENEY, J. H. LAMI-IEAD.
