Description
Feb. 26, 1963 P. J. J. VAES 3,078,570 DETACHABLE FASTENING MEANS F ATTACHING HEAD SHAVER TO DRY SHAVE OUSING Filed May 17, 1960 INVENTOR PETRUS J.J. VA ES BY MAW AGEN 3,'il78,57@ Patented Feb. 26, 1963 3,078,570 DETACHABLE FASTENING MEANS FOR AT- TACHING SHAVER HEAD T DRY SHAVER HGUSWG Petrns Jozephus Johannes Vaes, Drachten, Netherlands, assignor to North American Philips Company, Inc., New York, N.Y., a corporation of Delaware Fiicd May 17, 1966, Ser. No. 29,659 tClaims priority, application Netherlands May 19, 1959 2 Claims. {CL 30-41) The invention relates to a dry shaving apparatus com prising a detachable shaving head which has at least one apertured shear plate and is provided with one or more studs with a cut to fasten the head to the apparaus, an element subjected to spring pressure being located in this out in the assembled state of the apparatus.
With a known dry shaving apparatus of the kind set forth the said element is constituted by a slide provided with an aperture. In the assembled state of the shaving head the stud extends through the aperture of the slide and a spring holds the boundary of the aperture in the cut of the stud. By displacing the slide against the spring action, the stud can be withdrawn from the aperture, so that the shaving head can be detached from the dry shaving apparatus.
In accordance with the invention the element itself consists of an elongated spring, of which one end is secured to the housing of the apparatus and the other end is located in the cut of the stud.
In accordance with the invention a very simple construction is obtained, since only one member, i.e. the elongated spring, is required to attach a shaving head provided with a stud with cuts to the apparatus. The risk of the elongated spring being jammed due to dirt, which may occur in the case of a slide, is practically excluded.
According to a further aspect of the invention the stud(s) when the shaving head is mounted on a dry shaving apparatus provided with a hair chamber, extend(s) into the hair chamber which is located behind the shear plate. In this case the elongated spring(s) is (are) of simple construction and is secured at one end to the bottom of the hair chamber so that the spring(s) extend(s) along the bottom.
Thus each spring may be constituted by a single piece of resilient wire or blade.
In order to facilitate the mounting and detachment of the shaving head, the end(s) of the spring(s) not secured to the housing extend(s) preferably up to the hair chamber, which can be opened at this place.
The invention will be described more fully with reference to one embodiment shown in the figures.
FIG. 1 is a sectional View taken across the housing of a dry shaving apparatus having a detachable shaving head with two shear plates.
FIG. 2 is a plan view of the housing of FIG. 1, the shaving head being removed from the housing.
The housing 1 of a dry shaving apparatus is provided with a detachable shaving head 2, which comprises, in known manner, two apertured shear plates 3, only one of which is illustrated. The shaving head 2 is provided with the studs 4, which have cuts 5 at their free ends; only the cut of the stud 4 on the left-hand side of the figure is shown. The cut 5 of the right-hand stud 4 is located on the rear side of this stud. The studs 4 extend into a hair chamber 6, which is formed between the housing 1 and the shaving head 2. Through the bottom '7 of the hair chamber 61 extend two driving shafts 8 and between these shafts are arranged side by side two wire springs 9 and 1%. The ends 11 and 12 are secured to the bottom of the hair chamber 6 on opposite sides by means of a screw 13 and 1d respectively. In the unmounted state of the shaving head 2 the springs 9 and 16' extend along the bottom 7 of the hair chamber. The free ends 2t and 21 of the springs 9 and 10 extend up to the wall 22 of the hair chamber 6, which wall is formed at this place by flaps that can be opened by tilting. In FIG. 2 these flaps are shown in the opened position. For mounting or detaching the shaving head 2 the free ends 22? and 21 can be moved into or out of the cuts 5 of the studs 4.
What is claimed is:
1. A detachable fastening means for attaching a shaver head containing a shear plate and a cutting member to a dry shaver housing comprising a mount for said shear plate and cutting member provided with at least one depending stud, said stud having a cut-out portion located in a side thereof, an elongated spring secured at one end to said shaver housing and being normally biased away from the stud of said positioned mount, the free end of said spring being inserted against the force of the spring into said cut-out portion to securely attach said shaving head to said housing, said shaver head and shaver housing defining a hair-receiving chamber therebetween, said stud projecting into said chamber, and said spring normally extending along the floor of said hair-receiving chamber.
2. A detachable fastening means for attaching a shaver head containing a shear plate and a cutting member to a dry shaver housing as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a closable opening to the exterior of said housing wherein said free end of said spring is elevated from the floor of said hair-receiving chamber and in proximity to said opening.
