Description

Jan. 1,1y 1963 R. R. FORTE 3,070,806 NECKTIE HOLDER Filed 0G12. 13, 1960 INVENTOR.
ROBERT R. FORTE BY www ATTORNEY SJWLSS Patented Jan. l, 1963 3,070,806 NECKTl-ll HOLDER Robert R. Forte, R-D. 3, Bethlehem, Pa. Filed @et 13, 1960, Ser. No. 62,372 i Claims. (Cl. 2--153) This invention relates to improvements in a necktie holder, and more particularly concerns a necktie holder for use with a pretied necktie which simulates the appearance of normally-tied conventional neckties.
Many types of pretied neckties and necktie holders are available. All attempt to simulate the appearance of a normally-tied conventional necktie and they accomplish their purpose with Varying degrees of success. However, it has long been a problem to provide a necktie holder which holds a pretied necktie away from the shirt of the wearer like a normally-tied conventional necktie does. Previous necktie holders have failed in this respect by holding the knot of the pretied necktie flush against the shirt.
Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to overcome the aforementioned disadvantage of previous proposed necktie holders and to provide a necktie holder which holds the pretied necktie away from the shirt of the wearer and thereby more accurately simulates the appearance of a normally-tied conventional necktie.
`Other objects and advantages of this invention, including its simplicity and economy, will further become apparent hereinafter and inthe drawings, in which:
FIG. l is a View in top plan of a necktie holder constructed in accordance with this invention;
FIG. 2 is a view in front elevation of the necktie holder shown in FIG. l;
FIG. 3 is a view in side elevation of the necktie holder; and
FIG. 4 is a View of a pretied necktie on the shirt of a wearer, and illustrates the manner in which the necktie holder positions the pretied necktie away from the shirt to simulate the position of a normally-tied conventional necktie.
Although speciiic terms are used in the following description for clarity, these terms are intended to refer only to the structure shown in the drawings and are not intended to define or limit the scope of the invention.
Turning now to the specific embodiment of the invention selected for illustration in the drawings, there is shown a necktie holder comprising a necktie supporting member 11 on which the tie is knotted, a collar attaching member 12 which has a slot 13 which receives the neckband of a shirt, and a spacing member 14 which connects necktie supporting member 11 to collar attaching member 12 to hold the neckband-gripping slot 13 at an angle to necktie support member 11 and thereby hold the pretied necktie away from the shirt like a normally-tied conventional necktie.
Necktie supporting member 11 includes a body portion 15 having an upper edge 16, annd wing portions 17 extending obliquely, vertically, and rearwardly from each side of body portion 15. Wing portions 17 are adapted to fit under the collar of a shirt to keep the necktie in vertical position and prevent it from going askew.
Collar attaching member 12 has a base 1S with front leg 21 and rear leg 22 depending therefrom to form neckband-gripping slot 13 therebetween.
It is to be noted that rear leg 22 is provided with a rounded bottom edge 23 and is shorter than front leg 21, so that the necktie holder may be easily attached to the shirt n-eckband by passing the short rear leg 22 rearwardly over the top of the neckband until the rear surface of front leg 21 makes contact with the outer surface of the neckband. Then collar attaching member 12 is moved downwardly so that the neckband is received in slot 13. The entire necktie holder is preferably made of a resilient plastic material, and front leg 21 is especially made of a resilient material so that it may be bent forwardly for easy insertion of the neckband into slot 13.
Spacing member 14 includes a bottom portion 24 and an upright portion 25 and connects the bottom of body portion 15 to the base 18 of collar attaching member 12. Front leg 21 and upright portion 25 form an angle 26 therebetween in order to properly position the pretied necktie away from the shirt of the wearer. Angle 26 may be any desired angle but satisfactory results have been obtained when angle 26 is about 30 degrees.
FIG. 4 illustrates the appearance of a pretied necktie constructed in accordance with this invention as it appears when attached to the shirt of a wearer. Necktie 27 is looped around the front of the necktie holder and the ends of the necktie are passed rearwardly on each side of body portion 1S, then upwardly with an end of the necktie on each side of spacing member 14, then downwardly across the face of body portion 15 and behind the loop ofthe necktie. The necktie is pulled taut so that the loop forms knot 28 with the two ends of the necktie 27 depending therefrom. A thread 31 may be stitched from one side of the necktie loop to the other, behind the necktie ends and behind or beneath spacing member 14.
From the foregoing, it is seen that the necktie holder of the present invention holds the pretied necktie away from the shirt of the wearer to accurately simulate a normally-tied conventional necktie.
lt is to be understood that the form of the invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred embodiment. Various changes may be made in the shape, size and arrangement of parts. For example, equivalent elements may be substituted for those illustrated and described, parts may be reversed, and certain features of the invention may be utilized independently of the use of other features, all without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as defined in the subjoined claims.
