This invention relates to a combination cigarette package and lighter.
The present invention provides a novel combination including a cigarette package and a lighter supported thereon. The lighter is mounted on a rigid U-shaped frame having an intermediate portion adapted to overlie the cigarettes in the package and two (2) depending stiiiening legs which are adapted to extend downwardly into the package between the inner cigarette container and the outer cover thereof. The lighter embodies a novel construction wherein its friction wheel, wick tube and closure cap are mounted on and disposed above the intermediate portion of the frame, and its fluid container in the form of a cylinder embodying the general shape and size of a cigarette extends downwardly into the cigarette package, The combination comprising the rigid frame with the lighter and uid container, arranged so the fluid container extends into and is concealed within the cigarette package, provides a compact accessory adapted to be conveniently carried by the cigarette package.
An obje-ct of my invention is to provide a novel combination cigarette package and lighter of the kind characterized, embodying -a rigid U-shaped frame which is adapted to support a lighter in a convenient position wherein its friction wheel and associated parts are disposed above the package and its iiuid container is concealed within such package.
Another object of my invention is to provide a cornbination cigarette package and lighter having stiffening members adapted to extend lengthwise alongside opposed sides of the package to prevent damage to the cigarettes therein.
Other and further objects of my invention will be pointed out hereinafter or will be indicated in the appended claims or will be obvious to one skilled in the art upon an understanding of the present disclosure. For the purpose of this application, I have elected to show herein certain forms and details of a combination cigarette package and lighter embodying my invention;
it is to be understood, however, that the embodiment of my invention shown and described herein is for purposes of illustration only, and that it is not to be regarded as exhaustive of the variations of the invention in the art.
ln the accompanying drawing:
FiG. 1 is a perspective view of a combination cigarette package and lighter embodying my invention;
FiG. 2 is a sectional view, on an enlarged scale, taken along the line 2-2 of FIG. l;
HG. 3 is a sectional view, on an enlarged scale, taken along the line 3-3 of FlG. l; and
FlG. 4 is -a sectional view taken along the line 4--4 of FIG. 2.
The present invention is intended for use with a conventional cigarette package A of the type having an inner container 1li normally holding twenty (20) cigarettes B, and an outer cover liia of paper or other suitable material. Although not shown, the outer cover 10a is enclosed in a cellophane or other type of protective covering to prevent the cigarettes from losing their normal moisture content.
A rigid lighter supporting frame 11 embodying my in- Venti-on comprises opposed parallel legs 12, 12 adapted to extend from the .top to the bottom of the package A along the narrower sides thereof, and preferably between the inner container 10 and the outer cover 10a. The legs are aproxmately the width of the inner container 10, and the upper ends of such legs are connected to an 'intermediate member 13 formed with depending opposed narrow side anges 14, 14 which extend downwardly alongside opposite sides of the outer cover 10a. The intermediate member 13 is provided with an opening 13a at one end through which the cigarettes B may be withdrawn, it being desirable to partially or entirely tear away the top sides of the container 10 and the outer cover 10a before the frame is mounted on the package.
The intermediate member -13 of the Lil-shaped frame `is also provided with a suitable opening 13b which is utilized in the mounting of a lighter on the frame. Ex-
p tending over the opening 13b in the intermediate member 13 of the U-shaped frame is a plate 15 upon which is mounted various pants of a conventional lighter, including a wick tube 16, a rotatable friction wheel 17, a closing cap 13 keyed to the friction wheel, and the upper end of a int tube 19 containing a flint element 20 which is maintained in firm engagement with the serrated periphery of the friction wheel by a coil compression spring 21. The lower end of the flint tube 19 is externally threaded, and adjustably mounted thereon is an internally threaded cap 22 which engages with the lower end of the spring 2l to provide means for adjusting the tension of the spring. Extending upwardly through the wick tube 1.6 is an elongated wick 23, the upper end of which is exposed and positioned to intercept sparks resulting from the `rotation of the friction wheel 17 in a clockwise direction (FIG. 2) against the upper end of the flint element 20. The closing cap :18 is provided with an upturned end portion 18a which is preferably knurled to facilitate the turning of the cap in a clockwise direction to actuate the friction wheel in the same direction to produce a spark for the igniting of the wick.
Secured by an impervious connection to the lower side of the plate 15 is a hollow depending cylindrical or tubular member 24 of suitable length, the upper end portion of which extends through the opening 13b and is formed with threads for the connection of an elongated cylindrical iiuid container 25 holding a supply of combustible iluid. The upper end portion of the container 25 is formed with suitable threads which are adapted to engage with the threads of the cylindrical member 24, and the upper end of said container is formed with a circular outwardly extending flange 25a which is yadapted to engage with a resilient neoprene gasket 26 interposed between the intermediate frame member 13 and the said ange 25a. When the container 25 is tightly screwed onto the threaded portion of the cylindrical member 24 so the llange 25a thereof firmly presses against the gasket 26, fiuid held in the container is prevented from escaping. The wick 23 is sufliciently long to extend well into the lighter iluid held in the container 25. The supply with the container, to attach the combination frame and lighter to the package. The frictional engagement of the legs 12, 12 with respect to the inner container 10 and the outer cover 1li-a normally prevents the detachment of the U-shaped frame from the package.
What I claim is:
