PACK OF BLANK FORMS Filed May 21, 1959 4 Sheets-Sheet 4 3N I/E N TOR 3,055,317 Patented Aug. 21, 1962 3,050,317 PACK F BLANK FGRMS Johannes Meyer, Hornehurg, N.E., Germany Filed May 21, 1959, Ser. No. 814,857 Claims priority, application Germany May 29, 1958 Claims. (Cl. 283-63) The invention relates to a pack of blank forms in particular however to a pack formed of a plurality of superimposed sets of blank forms.
It is known to combine a plurality of blank form sets, each set comprising several sheets of paper, to a pack. These known packs comprise a carrier or back sheet which is folded in a zigzag fashion one set of blank forms being fastened to each fold. In this way each set of blank forms, while all of them are being held together by the back sheet, may be displaced relative to the next one in a shingle like way about the double folding length thus providing a free zone on the unfolded blank form sets for comparison, and in the same way they may be pushed back again to form a pack or book of mating blank form sets. The number of pages or sheets belonging to each blank form set may be freely selected. It is also possible for copying to use the reverse side of a sheet provided with a carbon layer instead of separate carbon sheets.
The thus obtained advantage of providing packs of blank form sets which may be spread apart is opposed by the disadvantage that the manufacture of these packs is rather intricate and expensive so that in many cases their use is out of the question because of the high price. Another fact which often proves to be a shortcoming is, that the back of the folded pack of blank form sets is substantially thicker within the folded range, which hinders the storing and piling possibilities of such packs of blank form sets.
According to the invention a pack of blank form sets is provided which may be manufactured using extremely little material and with a minimum of time and labour and which, within the range of its back is but little thicker and thus may easily be stored and piled.
One object of the invention is to provide a pack of blank form sets in which each blank form set comprises a main sheet folded along one edge to form an upper and a lower sheet and in which the backside of the lower sheet is glued to the front side of the upper sheet of the next lower main sheet along an area which is parallel to and spaced from said folding edge thus forming a continuous connection between all of the blank forms sets in a zigzag fashion to accommodate a spaced displacement of the blank form sets relative to one another, the distance between the glued area and the folding edge corresponding to half of the required width to which the blank form sets are to be displaced.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pack of blank form sets in which a separating or tearing line is formed by perforations or any other suitable means being arranged on one or both of the sheets formed by the main sheet along the edge of the glued area adjacent to the folding edge.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pack of blank form sets in which at least one subsidiary or additional copy sheet being placed between each of the upper and the lower sheet of said main sheets being connected to said main sheets by means of an adhering area arranged parallel to and spaced from said folding edge of the main sheet.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pack of blank form sets in which at least two subsidiary or copy sheets are connected by a folding edge being placed between each of the upper and lower sheet of said main sheets, the lower sheets of said subsidiary and said main sheet of each set being interconnected by an adhering area arranged parallel to and spaced from said folding edge of said subsidiary sheets.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pack of blank form sets in which the adhering area is arranged matingly above the adhering region between two adjacent main sheets, the distance from the folding edge of the subsidiary sheets being less than the distance from the folding edge of the main sheets to the respective adhering regions.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pack of blank form sets in which at least one subsidiary or additional copy sheet between each of the upper and the lower sheet of said main sheets being integrally connected to said subsidiary sheet by an outer folding edge and ending adjacent the adhering region.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pack of blank form sets in which provision is made for a line of apertures arranged parallel to and spaced from the tearing line of said main sheet, said line of apertures coinciding with the border region of said subsidiary sheet after being folded over, said line of apertures forming an adhering region between said main sheets of two adjacent blank form sets and the subsidiary sheet.
The invention proper may be employed for numerous fields of application, for instance also for the manufacture of cash receipt packs. The pack made in accordance with the invention may also be used as an endless set of forms for writing work in a booking machine, or a booking apparatus.
Further improvements and suitable developments of the invention are illustrated in more detail with the aid of the attached drawings.
In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a pack of blank form sets made in accordance with the invention when pushed together, composed of double main sheets, the individual blank form sets are slightly pulled apart, in order to better illustrate the construction of the pack of blank form sets,
FIG. 2 is a perspective view on the pack of the blank form sets according to FIG. 1, partially unfolded,
FIG. 3 is a perspective view similar to FIG. 1, however with a subsidiary sheet placed between the two main sheets of each blank form set, the subsidiary sheet being shown by way of example to be a double folded subsidiary sheet,
FIG. 4 is a perspective view similar to FIG. 2 of the embodiment according to FIG. 3,
FIGS. 5 and 6 are perspective views of a pack of blank form sets, having one double main sheet and two subsidiary sheets, each set of blank forms consisting of three leaves,
FIGS. 7 and 8 are perspective views of a pack of blank form sets, wherein each set of forms consists of an original sheet and three copy sheets,
FIG. 9 shows a main sheet prepared for use with a further embodiment not yet folded, and
FIG. 10 is a sectional, elevational, view of a plurality of interconnected folded form sets of the embodiment of FIG. 9.
'l'he embodiment according to FIGS. 1 to 2 comprises a plurality of double main sheets 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 1e, 1] etc. These double main sheets show a folding edge 2, by which an upper sheet 3 and a lower sheet 4 are formed. Between the upper sheet 3 and the lower sheet 4, a carbon paper is placed in a manner not shown. Instead of this, the backside of the upper sheet 3 may also be provided with a carbon layer. The back side of the lower sheet 4 of each double main sheet is connected along an adhering area 5 to the front side of the upper sheet 3 of the next lower double main sheet. Along the edge 6 of the adhering area 5 adjacent to the folding edge 2 the lower sheet 4 is provided with a separating or tearing line,
. 7 of the upper sheet 3 is likewise provided with perforations or the like. The distance 'a between the edge 6 of the lower sheet 4 of the double main sheet from the folding edge 2 equals the distance between the edge of the adhesive area 7' of the upper sheet 3 of the main double sheet from the folding edge 2. These two distances together are equal to the amount c, about which each set of blank for-ms may be displaced from its adjacent set of blank forms. In the example of embodiment, the pack of blank form sets is adapted to be used for accounting in a dairy, wherein in the column the volume delivered as well as the amount of money become visible when the blank form sets are displaced relative each other.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 3 and 4 the same reference numerals are used as for the embodiment in the FIGURES -l to 2. The structure and the arrangement of the double main sheets 1a etc. and the connection of these double main sheets differs in no way from that according to FIGS. 1 to 2. In the embodiment according to FIGS. 3 to 4, however, subsidiary double sheet-s 8a, 8b, 8c etc. are additionally insented between the individual main sheets 1a, 112 etc., the subsidiary double sheets being folded along a folding edge 9 in such a manner that two sheets '10 and 11 are formed, namely an upper sheet 10 and a lower sheet v11. The subsidiary double sheet 8a being placed between the folds of the double base sheet 1a, the subsidiary double sheet 8b between the folds of the double base sheet 1b etc. The back side of the lower sheet 11 of each subsidiary double sheet 8a is then connected along an adhering strips 12 with the upper side of the lower sheet 4 of the pertaining double main sheet, i.e. the adhering stripe 12 preferably coincides with the adhering stripe '5. In this way, according to the embodiment shown in FIGS. 3 to '4, each set of blank forms comprises a unit of four sheets to. one original sheet and three copy sheets. Also here the first set of a new pack of form sets comprises five sheets, instead of four when pulled apart which, however, for the reasons mentioned above does not exclude the fact that at the end of using the pack of blank form sets, a copy of each blank form set appears sidewards when the pack is pulled apart and may be summed up with the values of the other copies. As already mentioned, single subsidiary sheets may be provided instead of the double ones.
According to FIGS. 5 and 6, the main sheet is designed as a threefold main sheet. The upper or original sheet is connected to the first copy sheet 103 along a folding edge 104, while the copy sheet 102 and the copy sheet [103 are interconnected along a folding edge 105. The copy sheet 103 is inwardly folded along the folding edge 105. As described already the back side of the copy sheet 102 is connected to the front side of the original sheet 101. The distance a on the copying sheet 102 which equals the space between the folding edge 104 and the outer edge of the adhering stripe 106, again equals 7 the distance b which corresponds to the distance between the outer edge of the adhering stripe and the folding edge 104 on the original sheet 101. The sum of these distances a and b incorporates the amount about which each of the blank form sets may be transversely displaced. The copying sheet 102 may be separated along its perforated edge I107 which corresponds approximately to the inside edge of the adhering stripe 106. In a corresponding manner, the original sheet '101 may be separated along a perforated edge 108 which in folded condition matches the perforated edge 107. The width of the copying sheet 103 is selected to be such that in folded condition, it does not project beyond the perforated edge 107. V
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 7 and 8, the main sheets are designated with 109, the reference numerals inthe individual blank form sets of the pack differing only by the addition of the letters a, b, c, d etc.
4 Each set of blank forms is provided with three copy sheets 110, 111, 112. Each main sheet with the pertaining copy sheets 110, 111, 112 is made by correspondingly folding the base sheet. While the embodiment shown in FIGS. 5 5 and 6 is provided with two copy sheets wherein the second copy sheet has been folded to the first copy sheet, this is accomplished according to the embodiment shown in FIGS. 7 and 8 by folding the main sheet so as to form the copy sheets. The original or upper sheet is connected 1() to the first copy sheet 110 by means of a folding edge 113 which is provided with a perforation. The first copy sheet 110 is connected to the second copy sheet 111 by means of a folding edge 114 which is likewise provided with a perforation. The outside edge 115 of the second copy sheet 111 is just as free as the outside edge of the third copy sheet 116. These outside edges 115 and 116 constitute the edges of the main sheet from which the original 109 and the copy sheets 110, 111 and '112 are made by folding and perforating. The back side of the third copy sheet 112 is again connected with the front side of the original sheet 109a of the next lower blank form set along an adhering stripe '117.
Each original sheet 109 is connected with the third copy sheet 112 by a folding edge 118, which lies in the back of the pack of blank form sets and is provided with a perforation. In a corresponding manner, also the folding edge 114 with its perforation connecting the first copy sheet 110 to the second copy sheet 111, lies along the back of the blank form set. When making the individual blank form sets, the folding edges and perforations 114, 118 may be made in one working step, in such a way that the elevations resulting from the perforation of the folding edge 114 engage the holes of the perforation 118, and in this manner the first copy sheet 110 and the second 3 copy sheet 111 are kept at the folding and perforation edges 118, so that the original sheet 109 and the three copy sheets '110, 111, 112 are safely kept along the perforation and folding edge 118. The distance a on the third copy sheet 112, between the outside edge of the adhering stripe 117 and the folding and perforation edge 118, and the distance b on the original sheet 9a, between the outside edge of the adhering stripe 117 and the folding and perforation edge 118a, are the same. Both distances together amount again to the amount about which each blank form set may be displaced transversely to one another. The third copy sheet 112, which is connected with the main sheet of the next lower set of blank forms by the adhering stripe 117, is provided with a perforated edge 119 which extends approximately along the inside edge of the adhering stripe 117. In a corresponding manner, the original sheet 109 is provided with a perforated edge 120, which is mating the perforated edge 119 when the blank form set and the pack of blank form sets are in their superimposed position.
The first copy sheet 110 comprises a perforated edge 121, and the second copy sheet is provided with a perforated edge 122. All the perforated edges 119, :120, 121
and 122 are aligned one above the other when the pack of form sets is folded together.
0 The embodiment shown in FIGS. 9 and 10 comprises one main sheet consisting of the original or upper sheet 201, the first copy sheet 202 and the second copy sheet 203. The original sheet 201 is connected and folded together with the sheet 203 for the second copy forming 5 a folding edge 204 which is perforated or grooved. At a desired distance from the folding edge 204, tear- 01f perforations 205 and 206 are arranged in the original sheet 201 and in the copy sheet 203. Beside the perforation 205 of the original 201, a line of apertures 207 is provided, adjacent to which a line of perforations 208 is arranged. a
The sheet 202 forming the first copy is connected and folded to the sheet 203 for the second copy, forming the folding edge 209. At the free margin, the sheet 202 is perforated along a line 210 in a width being slightly may greater than the line of apertures 207 of the sheet 201.
The set of blank forms is made in the following manner: The sheet 202 is folded inwardly along the folding edge 209, so that the edge 211 of the sheet 202 coincides with the perforation 206 of the sheet 203. Thereupon the sheet 201 is folded about the folding edge 204 onto the sheet 202, so that now the sequence of the sheets is 201, 202, 203. By placing the sheets one upon the other in this manner, the line of apertures 207 lies on the edge portion 213 of the sheet 202. By applying a stripe of glue along the line of apertures 207, the glue comes in contact with the portion 213 of the sheet 202. A similarly prepared main sheet set is now placed on this set, whereby as a result of the stripe of glue the first set of forms is connected to the second set of forms, namely in such a manner that the edge portion 213 of the sheet 202 of the bottom set is connected to the bottom side of the sheet 203 of the top set. The individual blank form sets are cut at the right hand side at edge 209 as shown in FIG. 10, so that open sets of blank forms are obtained, by which the insertion of the carbon paper is substantially faciliated.
What I claim is:
1. A pack formed of a plurality of superimposed sets of blank forms in which each set of blank forms comprises a main flexible sheet folded upon itself forming a folded edge and upper and lower portions, adhesive means connecting the under side of the lower main sheet portion of an upper set of blank forms with the upper side of the upper main sheet portion of the next lower one of said sets of blank forms defining an adhesion area having first and second edges parallel to and spaced from said folded edge, said first edge being nearest said folded edge and spaced therefrom a predetermined distance, said sheet being formed of flexible material and a folding line defined on said upper sheet portion adjacent said first edge whereby the linear portions of said upper and lower sheet portions contiguous with said adhesion area edge forms hinge portions, said folding line permitting a transverse displacement between the upper and lower portions of one set of forms and a transverse displacement between like portions of adjacent sets equal to twice said predetermined distance.
2. A pack formed of a plurality of superimposed sets of blank forms as in claim 1, wherein perforations are defined in one of said sheet portions along said first edge defining a separating line and at least one copy sheet located between said sheet portions of each main sheet and afiixed to said main sheet by means of a second adhesion area parallel to and spaced from said folded edge of the main sheet.
3. A pack formed of a plurality of superimposed sets of blank forms as in claim 1, wherein perforations are defined in one of said sheet portions along said first edge defining a separating line and at least two subsidiary sheets connected by a folded edge located between said sheet portions of each main sheet, the lower sheet of said subsidiary sheets and said main sheet of each set being interconnected by a second adhesion area arranged parallel to and spaced from said folded edge of said subsidiary sheets.
4. A pack formed of a plurality of superimposed sets of blank forms as in claim l, wherein perforations are defined in one of said sheet portions along said first edge defining a separating line and at least two copy sheets connected by a folded edge located between said sheet portions of each main sheet, the lower sheet of said copy sheets and the lower main sheet portion of each set being interconnected by a second adhesion arear arranged matingly above the adhesion area connecting two adjacent main sheets, the distance from the folded edge of said copy sheets being less than the distance from the folded edge of said main sheets to the respective adhesion areas.
5. A pack formed of a plurality of superimposed sets of blank forms as in claim 1, wherein perforations are defined in one of said sheet portions along said first edge defining a separating line and at least one copy sheet located between said sheet portions of each main sheet and integrally connected to said main sheet by an outer folded edge and having an end edge terminating adjacent said adhesion area.
6. A pack formed of a plurality of superimposed sets of blank forms as in claim 5, wherein perforations are defined in said copy sheet at said outer folding edge defining a tearing line.
7. A pack formed of a plurality of superimposed sets of blank forms as in claim 1, wherein perforation are defined in one of said sheet portions along said first edge defining a separating line and at least one copy sheet located between said sheet portions of each main sheet and integrally connected to said main sheet by an outer folded edge and having a line of apertures defined in said main sheet arranged parallel and adjacent to said separating line of said main sheet on the side of said line away from said main sheet folded edge, said line of apertures coinciding with an end border region of said copy sheet after said copy sheet is folded bet-ween said main sheet portions at said outer folded edge, said line of apertures forming an adhesion area between the main sheets of two adjacent blank form sets and said copy sheet upon applying adhesive material to said border region through said apertures.
