(Cl. 312-197) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a desk, table, cabinet or the like having a movable storage unit pivotally operable beneath the top of a desk or the like.

An object of the invention is to provide a desk with a movable storage unit pivotally operable beneath the top of the desk to opened and to closed position.

Another object of the invention is to provide a desk of the character described having end sections extending outwardly from each other with a movable storage unit pivotally operable beneath the top of the desk to opened and closed position.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a desk of the character described with a movable storage unit pivotally operable beneath the top of the desk with the pivotal end of the unit opposed to the open end of the unit with the open end of the unit on the accessibility side of the desk.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a desk of the character described having end sections extending outwardly from each other with a movable storage unit pivotally operable in the space beneath the top of the desk formed by the convergence of the end sections with the pivotal end of the unit opposed to the open end of the unit.

These and other objects of the invention will in part be obvious and will in part be more fully disclosed in the specifications, the drawings of which show by way of illustration one embodiment of the invention, in which:

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of L-shaped desk with movable storage unit in closed position pivotally mounted within the cabinet in the space beneath the top of the desk formed by the convergence of the end sections of the L-shaped desk;

FIG. 2 is a perspective view of L-shaped desk with movable storage unit in opened position pivotally mounted within the cabinet in the space beneath the top of the desk formed by the convergence of the end sections of the L-shaped desk;

FIG. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of the movable storage unit showing layers of corrugated shelves spaced apart over each other and staggered to form elongated receptacles by matching opposed corrugations with map tubes shown in the receptacles exposed on the open end of the unit for ready accessibility and showing detachable outer hinged door of unit with handle and traveler suspension arm with one end thereof pivotally attached to the underside of the unit and the other end thereof pivotally attached to the floor of the cabinet.

Referring to the accompanying drawings in which like numerals herein denote like numeraled parts therein in the various views. The present invention will be better understood from a detailed description thereof, in which, the numeral 1 denotes end section 1 and numeral 2 denotes the other end section 2 which end sections 1 and 2 converge to form L-shaped desk which provides unused space 3 beneath the tops 4 and 6 of the end sections 1 and 2 respectively for conveniently attaching cabinet in the heretofore inaccessible and unused space 3. The cabinet 5 is enclosed by end walls 5a5a and outer side wall 5]) and is covered by portions of tops 4 and 6. FIGS. 1, 2 and 3 shows the distance between the open end 12 and the rear end 13 of unit 7 to be shorter than door 9 and to be spaced sufiiciently from each end of said door 9 so as to swing freely into and out of cabinet 5 which door is pivotally mounted on hinges 88 attached thereto and to the inner edges of the rear end wall 5a of the cabinet 5. A handle 9a is provided for opening or closing the storage unit. The open end 12 of the unit is on accessibility side 35 of the desk and is opposed to the hinged end 13 of the unit. A travelling suspension arm has an inner arm 14 which is pivotally mounted on the top end of swivel pin 15 and the lower end of swivel pin 15 pivotally mounted on stationary foot 16 with said foot 16 rigidly fastened to floor 18 of the cabinet 5 by means of screws (not shown) through holes 17 of the foot 16. The outer hollow arm 19 sleeves over inner arm 14 of the travelling suspension mechanism and the upper side of the forward end 20 thereof being pivotally mounted on swivel pin 21 and the upper end of said swivel pin 21 being pivotally mounted in the bottom side of the stationary foot 22, which foot 22 is attached to underside of bottom 23 of the movable unit 5 by means of screws (not shown) through holes 24 of said foot 22. Corrugated shelves 25 are held in horizontal position within said movable unit 7 by L-shaped brackets 26 the backs of which have a protection 27 that fits through slots 28 cut through the

10 and 29 with inner ledges 30 of brackets 26 extending inwardly to support the corrugated shelves 25 since the edges 31 of the shelves 25 rest on said inner ledges 30. The shelves 25 are spaced apart and the corrugations 32 of each successive shelf 25 are offset or staggered so that receptacles 33 are formed at intervals between opposed corrugations 32 of each successive shelf and of sufficient size to receive a map tube 34. Corrugated shelves 25 are shown in the storage unit adapted for storage of maps or the like, however, it is to be understood the storage unit may be arranged for storage of many items in any desk, table, cabinet or the like.

It is obvious that many changes may be made in the details of construction and arrangement of the parts of the device Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

l. A desk having a movable storage unit pivotally mounted on a cabinet attached to said desk, said movable storage unit pivotally operable to opened and closed position with respect to said cabinet, end sections having tops converging with cabinet attached to said end sections, said storage unit having a rear end and an opposed open end thereto with the rear end pivotally mounted on said cabinet, said cabinet having three sides closed and one open side, said movable storage unit having a side that forms a door for said open side of said cabinet to provide means for closing said cabinet and containing said movable storage unit Within said cabinet, said storage unit operable to swing to opened position so that the open end thereof is accessible to remove and restore the contents thereof.

A desk having a. movable storage unit pivotally mounted beneath the top of said desk and enclosed within a cabinet attached to said desk, said movable storage unit pivotally operable to opened and closed position with respect to said cabinet, end sections having tops extending outwardly from each other and converging to form space beneath said tops to accommodate said cabinet enclosing said storage unit pivotally mounted on said cabinet, said cabinet having three sides closed and one open side, said movable storage unit having a side that forms a door for said open side of said cabinet to provide means for closing said cabinet and containing said movable storage unit Within said cabinet, said storage unit having'a rear end and an opposed open end thereto with the rear end pivotally mounted on said cabinet, said desk having an accessibility side to the open end of said storage unit, said storage unit operable to swing horizontally to opened position so that the open end thereof is accessible from the accessibility side of said desk in order to remove and restore the contents thereof.

A desk having a movable storage unit pivotally mounted beneath the top of a desk and enclosed within a cabinet attached to said desk, said movable storage unit pivotally operable to opened and closed position with respect to said cabinet, end sections having tops extending outwardly from each other and converging to form space beneath said tops to accommodate said cabinet enclosing said storage unit pivotally mounted on said cabinet, said cabinet having three sides closed and one open side, said movable storage unit having a side that forms a door for said open side of said cabinet to provide means for closing said cabinet and containing said movable storage unit Within said cabinet, said storage unit having a rear end and an opposed open end thereto with the rear end pivotally mounted on said cabinet, said desk having an accessibility side to the open end of said storage unit, said storage unit operable to swing horizontally to opened position so that the open end thereof is accessible from the accessibility side of said desk in order to remove and restore the contents thereof, shelves forming receptacles within said storage unit for the reception of maps or the like.
