Description
Jan. 23, 1962 J. PETERS 3,017,705
FOOT AND LEG APPAREL ARTICLE Filed April 8, 1960 INV. EN TOR.
JoH/v PE TERJ 3,017,705 FOOT AND LEG APPAREL ARTICLE John Peters, 4852 S. Michigan Ave, Apt. 2, Qhicago, Ell. Filed Apr. 8, 1960, Ser. No. 20,871 2 Claims. (Cl. 36-73) The present invention relates to a protective foot and leg apparel article.
Raincoats presently worn by men and women do not afford protection from the elements for the portion of the individuals legs from the knees down. Although rubbers and galoshes are frequently worn by men and women, when wearing raincoats, the lower pants section or lower stocking section is not protected by the raincoat nor the rubbers or galoshes.
An object of the present invention is to provide a foot and leg apparel article which protects the area between the knee and foot of an individual.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a boot fabricated of transparent waterproof plastic which is easily and with facility slipped over the shoe of an individual, and one which has means for holding the upper end portion about the leg of the individual without causing the trousers worn by the individual to become wrinkled.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a protective boot for Wearing over the shoe, and one having means for securely holding the boot to the shoe.
These and other objects and advantages of the present invention will be fully apparent from the following description when taken in conjunction with the annexed drawing, in which:
FIGURE 2 is a view partially in section of one of the individuals legs shown in FIGURE 1, on a slightly larger scale; and
FIGURE 3 is an isometric View of one of the boots in a partially folded condition.
Referring in greater detail to the drawing in which like numerals indicate like parts throughout the several views, the boot of the present invention is designated generally by the reference numeral and it is fabricated to fit a left and right foot of an individual, the legs of which are shown in FIGURES 1 and 2 and designated generally by the reference numeral 12.
The boot 10 includes a foot portion 14 and a leg portion 16 rising from the foot portion 14.
The leg portion 16 is of a size to loosely encompass an individuals leg and is designed for men to be of a size to extend about the lower portion of the trouser leg, as shown in FIGURE 2.
The foot portion 14 includes a sole 18 and a heel 20 connected together by an instep 22. The sole 18, heel 2t), and instep 22 are fabricated of a thicker plastic sheet than is the leg portion 16 which is fabricated wholly of flexible and transparent plastic material.
The upper end of the leg portion 16 is turned back upon itself and secured to the adjacent part to form a closed circular loop 24 (FIGURE 2) in which is an elastic ring 26 extending about the loop 24.
The present invention provides strap means on the foot portion 14 for securement of the foot portion 14- to the foot of a wearer. The strap means consists in a strap 28 having a buckle 30 on one end and a plurality of holes 32 in the other end, the buckles 30 and holes 32 constituting cooperating releasable fastening means on the opposite ends of the strap 28.
An intermediate part 34 of the strap 28 extends about 3,017,785 Patented Jan. 23, 1962 and is secured to the external surface of the instep 22.
It is intended that the boot of the present invention be so fabricated that the foot portion 14 is of a size to encompass the foot of a wearer when encased in a shoe, as at 36 in FIGURE 2.
In use, the boot of the present invention may be constructed with a narrower leg portion 16 to fit about the leg of a woman and with an appropriately dimensioned foot portion 14 and formed a heel 20 of a size to fit over a ladys shoe. It is intended that the elastic ring 26 be of such tension as to hold the leg portion 16 on the leg of the individual without causing the trouser leg to become wrinkled.
The boot 10 is to be fabricated of flexible transparent plastic, many types of which are commercially available and in such colors as desired.
What is claimed is:
1. An article of foot and leg apparel comprising a foot portion and a leg portion, said foot portion being fabricated of thick plastic sheet and including a sole, a heel, and an instep connecting the sole to the heel, said leg portion being fabricated wholly of flexible and transparent material and constructed to loosely encompass the leg of a wearer, the upper end of said leg portion being turned back upon itself and secured to the adjacent part of said leg portion to form a closed circular loop, an elastic ring within and extending about said loop, said foot portion being of a size to encompass the foot of a wearer, and a strap having the intermediate part thereof extending about and secured to the external surface of the instep and having cooperating releasable fastening means on the opposite ends for securement of said foot portion to the foot of the wearer.
2. An article of foot and leg apparel comprising a foot portion and a leg portion, said foot portion being fabricated of thick plastic sheet and including a sole, a heel, and an instep connecting the sole to the heel, said leg portion being fabricated wholly of flexible and transparent plastic material and constructed to loosely encompass the portion of the leg of a wearer from the foot to the knee, the upper end of said leg portion being turned back upon itself and secured to the adjacent part of said leg portion to form a closed circular loop, an elastic ring within and extending about said loop, said foot portion being of a siie to encompass the foot of a wearer, and a strap having the intermediate part thereof extending about and secured to the external surface of the instep and having cooperating releasable fastening means embodying a buckle and spaced holes on the opposite ends for securement of said foot portion to the foot of the wearer.
