To all whom t may concern,.-

Be it known that 1,-Jo1-1N A. G. HAMILL, of Bristol, in the county of Bristol, State of Rhode Island, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement on Overcoats, of which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which said invention appertains to make and use the same, reference benghad to the accompanying drawings,forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a front view of my improved coat, the neck being represented as closed 5 Fig. 2, a rear View,` a portion being shown in section, and Fig. 3, a sectional view showing the neck open.

Like letters and figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different lignres of the drawings.

My invention relates more especially to that class of overcoats which are composed of rubber cloth or other water-proof materials, being designed more especially for horse-car conductors, teamsters, Src.; and it consists in a novel construction and arrangement ofthe parts, as hereinafter more fully set forth and lclaimed, by which a cheaper and more effective device of this kind is produced than is now in ordinary use.

to nearly or quite twice the usual size where they are attached to the body at f, to enable the arms of the wearer to be readily inserted therein, and are each provided with a strap, l, for taking up the loose cloth under the arms after the coat is on, one end of the strapbeing attached to the back of the garment at e, and the other hooked or buttoned to the front at fi, when in use. The coat is provided with a cape or shoulder-piece, E, attached to its front and ends by water-proof connections or seams, the body A under the cape being perforated, as shown at e, and the lower edge of the cape left loose or unattached to the body to ventilate the garment at this point. A stay or strap, a, connects the body and cape near the lower edge of the cape, to prevent it from being accidentally elevated by the wind, and thereby permit water to pass to the interior ofthe garment through the Ventilating-holes z.

I do not confine myselfstrietly to constructing the garment of water-proof cloth, as other materials may be employed, if desired, without entirely depart-ing from the spirit of my improvement,which is applicable to nearly all loose overgarments for gent-lemens wear, without regard to the material of which they are composed.

' Having thus explained my invention, what I claim is- 1. In a coat substantially such as described, the sleeves B, enlarged at their inner or attaching ends, and provided with the straps l, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

2. As`an improved article of manufacture, a coat having the guard cl, formed integral with the body of the garment, and the sleeves B, enlarged at their inner or attaching ends, and provided with the straps Z, substantially as set forth.

3. As a new article of manufacture, the improved garment heren described, the same consisting of the body A, provided with the guard d, perforations z, cape E, enlarged sleeves B, and straps Z, constructed, combined, and arranged to operate substantially as set forth.
