No. 734,454 Claims priority, application Italy May 11, 1957 1 Claim. (Cl. 206-1) The present invention relates to an improved container and, more particularly, to a container for recorder bobbins.
An object of the invention is to produce a container for recorder bobbins wherein the disposition of the bobbins into graded classes, such as new and those which have been used, may be readily accomplished.
Another object of the invention is to produce a container for recorder bobbins which may be readily and economically manufactured.
These and other objects and advantages of the invention are achieved by a container comprising a bottom wall and upstanding side walls integral therewith, and at least one inwardly projecting wing element disposed adjacent the inner surface of a side wall and the bottom and extending upwardly along the inner surface of the side wall, the portion of the wing element adjacent the bottom and side wall being positively secured thereto to thereby impart rigidity to the wing element, the wing element tapering inwardly from the bottom wall and converging inwardly to provide an extended knife edge along the inwardly imposed free edge thereof.
The invention will be more completely understood from the following detailed description when considered along with the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a cover for the container, and
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the container body showing the knife-edged wings.
Referring to FIG. 1, there is shown a cover having a top wall 12 and downwardly depending side walls 14. Integral with the side walls 14 is formed a beading 16 forming a shoulder 18 along the lower edge thereof which is adapted to engage or cooperate with a corresponding flange on the main container body described in detail in connection wit-h the description of FIG. 2.
FIG. 2 illustrates the main body 20 of the container having a bottom portion 22, and upstanding side walls 24. An outwardly and upwardly projecting flange 26 is formed integral with the uppermost edges of the side walls 24. It will be noted that the flange portion 26 forms a shoulder portion 28 along the mating edges of the flange 26 and the side walls 24.
Disposed within the main container body 20 there is a pair of inwardly projecting wing elements 30 which are preferably rigidly secured in intimate contact with the bottom 22 of the container and extend along the inner surface of the side walls 22 to a point adjacent the flange 26. The wing elements 30 converge inwardly to provide an extended knife edge 32 along the inwardly disposed States Patent 3,009,564 Patented Nov. 21, 1961 free edge thereof. The wing elements 30 taper inwardly from the bottom wall 22 and form a substantially right triangular configuration in plan.
The wing portions 30 effectively divide the main container body 20 into two compartments which may be satisfactorily employed to store recorder bobbins and the like. Due to the wedge-shaped cross-sectional configuration of the wing elements 30, these recorder bobbins may be readily retained within or removed from the container body 20. It will be manifest that due to the fact that the free edges 32 of the wing elements 30 are formed as a knife edge and are included from the bottom to the top of the container, the introduction and withdrawal of the recorder units is greatly facilitated.
The simplicity of the design of the container described above makes the container one which readily lends itself to economical manufacture of different materials such as, for example, metal, plastic, and the like.
According to the provisions of the patent statutes, I have explained the principles and mode of operation of my invention, and have illustrated and described what I now consider to represent its best embodiment. However, I desire to have it understood that, within the scope of the appended claims, the invention may be practiced otherwise than specifically illustrated and described.
I claim:
A container including a main body portion and a one piece cover, the main body portion comprising a bottom wall and upstanding side wall-s integral therewith, a peripheral shoulder formed in the upper portion of said side walls, a peripheral cover receiving flange extending upwardly from said shoulder, a pair of wing elements oppositely positioned on opposing side walls and being secured to the inner surface of the respective side walls and bottom wall and each extending from said bottom wall along the respective side walls to said shoulder, said wing elements being wedge-shaped in cross-sectional configuration to form a knife edge along the inwardly disposed free edges thereof and tapering from the bottom to the top wherein the edges diverge upwardly in relation to one another, said wing elements being located in the medial transverse plane of said main body portion; the cover comp-rising a top wall and depending side walls integral therewith, and a continuous marginal bead formed in the outer surface of said side walls to cooperate with said shoulder of the main body portion to form a seal between the cover and the main body portion of the container.
