Description
F. W. ROBINSON.
TRACTION ENGINE.
No. 300,397. .PatentedJune 17, 1884 (No Model.)
UNITED STATES;
PATENT @rricn.
FRANCIS IV. ROBINSON, OF RICHMOND, INDIANA.
TRACTION-ENGINE.
EQPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 300,397, dated June 17, 1884.
Application tiled March 14, MP4. (No model.
To all wlwnt it ntay ci'mcewt:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS W. Ronrrzson, acitizen of the United States, residing at Richmend, in the county of Vv'ayne and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Traction-Engines; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to that class of engines known as traction-engincs, and which are self-propelling.
My invention consists in a spring-platform swung to the rear end of the boiler.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a boiler with tank and spring-platform attached. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the springplatform and its means of attachment.
In Fig. 1, A. represents a boiler of ordinary construction, of which M is the fire-box. a is the chimney. 76 is a water-tank which is se cured to the front end of the boiler m. n is a chamber or open space between the end of the fines and the boiler-head.
l is the man-hole opening into the tank It.
The tank has pipeconneetions with the reservoir and boiler in any suitable manner, and the heat in the chamber a is communicated to the tank It and its contents.
D D, Fig. 2, represent metal arms hinged at one end to the fire-box, (seen at G, Fig. 1,) secured to which near their opposite ends are brace-rods O 0, which are secured at their upper ends by hooks and eyes, at E, Fig. 1.
B is a rectangular platform placed upon the arms D D by bolts I I I 1'.
Between the platform 13 and the arms D D are placed coiled springs H H H H, upon which the said platform has its bearings and relieves the occupant of the platform from the shaking and jarring of the engine.
I am aware that a=ren1ovable platform swung from the rear end of the boiler has been used, and this I do not claim, broadly; but
Vhat I do claim is In a road or traction engine, the platform B, res-ting upon springs H H H" H', in combination with the frame D I), in the manner and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony whereof I my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANCIS 'W. ROBINSON.
