COMBINED TENSION CLIP FOR FABRIC TENSIONING DEVICES Filed June 10, 1957 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 15 12 13 1 IN V B ,annjl 4/4. 0(- A n lw ist cs The present invention relates to a combined tension clip for fabric tensioning devices.
Combined tension clips of different structures are known for tension chain's fonfabric tensioning devices in order to grip the longitudinal selvages of the fabric to be tensioned. For instance, the needle part is swingabiy connected with the clamping part in such tension clips and may be moved out of the path of the fabric by a swinging movement. This arrangement has the drawback that the needle part'interferes with the drying operation of the fabric during the use of the clamping part. The same disadvantage is found in other structures of combined tension clips with needle parts which may be turned out or may swing into working position if needed.
Combined tension clips are also known, wherein the clamping part and the needle part form a joined rigid tension body, which is swingable upon an axle in such a manner that selectively the clamping part or the needle part may be put into working position. These combined tension clips are known having axles which are disposed perpendicularly to the direction of the fabric, as well as crosswise to its direction of movement. They have the drawback that a large swinging angle is required which makes the operation, the locking and the positioning of the clip body into both its working positions more dithcult and complicates the construction of the tension clip. Difiiculties have been also encountered with these combined tension clips to separate the latter from their guide parts, which are connected together to a joint-chain, for the purpose of. cleaning and repair. Since further the clamp part and the needle part are directed towards each other in these known tension clips and, therefore, require a turning for 180, these tension clips have also a larger construction height, which limits its use, because the drying nozzles cannot be brought close enough to the fabric path.
It is, therefore, one object of the present invention to provide a combined tension clip for fabric tensioning devices, wherein the clip body formed by the clamping part and the needle part is swingable upon an axis disposed parallel to the fabric path in both working positions. The needle carrier is arranged at about a right angle, but preferably at an angle of about 75 towards the clamping table, whereby a lower construction of this tension clip is brought about and the drying nozzles can be brought closer to and equally spaced at both sides of the fabric path. The swinging of the clip body into both Working positions, due to the smaller swinging angle of preferably 75 permits the adjustment and fixing of the clip body in the working positions in a very simple manner by means of a resilient tilting lever.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a combined tension clip for fabric tensioning devices wherein the mounting of the swingable clip body and its locking in the two working positions by means of a resiliently mounted tilting lever brings about a novel feature which resides in the mounting of the axle of the clip body in open bearing-hooks of the guide member, which mounting permits of removal of the clip body without dismantling other clip parts from its bearing and separation from its guide member. This expedient is of particular advantage for cleaning or repair of the clip body, since assert the guide members which are connected to a joint-chain tire; in no way interfered with by the removal of the clip The chain pivots are maintained in position by a safety sheet which carries advantageously, as a further novel and inventive feature, the bearing for the spring member of the knee-lever. The safety sheet is retained by a spring biased locking slide, the nose end of which engages the guide member.
7 It is advisable to exert the tractive force of the tensioned fabric on the connecting line of the tension point, through the center of the axle of the clip body and the center of the guide member, in order to arrange accordingly the clamping table and the needle carrier on the clip body. 1
The novel manner of swinging the clip body upon an axis disposed parallel to the fabric path and in its direction of movement has also the advantage that upon use of the needle part the position of the clip body is given by its abutment on its guide member and is safe against the pressure of the needle brushes. Upon use of the clamping part, in case of the same arrangement of said axis, the position of the clip body is likewise given by its abutment on its guide member.
With these and other objects in view which will become apparent in the following detailed description, the present invention will be clearly understood in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a side elevation of a tension clip with its clamping part shown in operative position;
FIG. 2 is a top plan view thereof;
FIG. 3 is a front elevation thereof;
FiG. 4 is a side elevation of a tension clip with its needle part in operative position; and
FIG. 5 is a side elevation of the resilient knee lever with the safety sheet of the chain pivots and the locking slide with its nose end.
Referring now to the drawing, the present device comprises a rigid clip body 1 which is equipped with a clamping table 2 having a flap 3 and the needle table 4 with the needle carrier 5. The clip body 1 is mounted with its axle 6 in an open hook 7 of the guide member 8 and has a rear arm 9 which forms jointly with spring members 12. a knee joint, which spring members 12 are movably supported by the bearing 17 of the safety sheets 10 of the 'chain pivots 11 and are mounted around a rod 12' which abuts a bolt 12 of the rear arm 9. The safety sheet 10 of the chain pivots 11 has a spring biased locking slide 13 with a nose end 14 (FIG. 5), which penetrates into the guide member 8 and which locks, thereby, the safety sheets 10 of the chain pivots 11 and, thereby, the chain pivots 11 against dislocation. Upon swinging of the clip body 1 in one or the other of the operative positions, the knee joint is moved through its dead point and pushes the clamping part and the needle part, respectively, into the operative positions. The effect of the spring biased knee joint 9 and 12 is limited by the abutments 15 and 16 of the guide member 8 and in this manner the clip body 1 is maintained in both operative positions by means of resilient locking means.
The application of the axle, disposed parallel to the fabric path and to its direction of movement, of the clip body 1 forming simultaneously the clamping part and the needle part is effective in equal manner, if the combined tension clip deviates in details from the structure set forth above. This relates for instance to the resilient locking of the clip body in both operative positions and the mounting of its axle in open hooks of the guide member. The mounting of the axle in closed bearing hooks would merely interfere with the easy separation of the clip body from its guide member, without, however, eliminating the other described advantages of the combined tension clip constituting the subject matter of the present invention.
While we have disclosed one embodiment of the present invention, it is to be understood that this embodiment is given by example only and not in a limiting sense, the scope of the invention being determined by the objects and the claims.
