Abstract

941,298. Floor treating machines. CIMEX Ltd. Oct. 2, 1962, No. 37422/62. Heading A4F. In a floor treating machine of the type described in Specification 936,522 having a wheel-mounted chassis and a treating unit including at least one treating element engagable with the floor by the weight of the treating unit, the treating unit 13 is carried by the first arm 14, of at least one two-armed lever pivotally mounted on the chassis, the second arm of which is connected to the chassis by a spring 25 arranged to exert a monet about the pivot 16 of the lever, tending to raise the treating unit 13 from the floor, the spring 25 being fixed at one end 26 to the chassis and at the other end to a link 21 which can be fixed in two or more angular positions 32 with respect to the second arm of the lever to carry the point of application of the force of the spring 25 in relation to the pivot of the lever and thus vary the load on the treating element 18. The embodiment described has two levers 14, 15 connected to a cross-bar 20 to the centre of which the link 21 to swing the levers 14, 15 about their pivot 16, is connected. A lever 29 is connected to the bar 20 by a pin 30 passing diametrically through the bar, and is mounted with sufficient clearance on the bar to enable it to rock to a limited extent about the axis of pin 30, so allowing the peg 31 on lever 29 to be engaged with any one of the three holes 32 on a web 33 adjoining lever 14.
