TAG OR TICKET FASTENER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 300,212, dated June 10, 1884.

To all whom it may concern-.-

Be it known that I, SOLOMON O. CAMPBELL, a citizen of the United States, and residing in Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Attaching Tags or Tickets to Dry-Goods or other Merchandise, of which the following is a specification. 7

The object of my invention is to facilitate the mode of connecting and disconnecting the tags, so that they may be readily and quickly removed from or attached to the goods, and at the same time providing a perfectly safe means of attachment, thus preventing any accidental detachment of the tag from the goods.

Another object of my invention isto provide a simple and effective means for binding together two or more folds or layers of goods when it is so desired,as will be hereinafter explained.

To these ends my invention consists'of an ordinary tag or ticket of paper, pasteboard, or other suitable material, to which is attached a metallic thread or wire about the thickness of an ordinary pin. The outer end of this wire is formed into a spiral, which terminates in a sharp point. In place, however, of a spiral, the curved portion may be oblong in shape, as in this formv it is more readily attached and removed.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents the preferred form of my invention, showing the curved portion as oblong in shape. Fig. 2 is a modification showing the spiral form. Fig. 3 shows the fasteners attached to and separating different folds of goods.

A is an ordinary tag or tieket,provided with an opening, B, through which is threaded the wire 0. The wire 0 may be provided with a 1oop,D,for convenience sake,though this is not essential to my invention. The outer end of O is formed into a curved portion,E, one form, as in Fig. 1, being oblongin shape,while that in Fig. 2 is spiral or helical. This curved portion or spiral terminates in a sharp point, 6. After inserting the point e in the goods, the form of fastener shown in Fig. 1 may be secured by a simple up-and-down movement, while that shown in Fig. 2 requires turning after the point has been inserted. The former is therefore generally preferred, as it is simpler,and has been found by experimentto give equally satisfactory results.

It may easily be seen that,instead of inserting the fastener in but one ply of goods,it may be made to penetrate two or three or even a dozen folds, and be utilized to hold such number together and separate from the rest.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The combination of a tag or ticket with a metallic thread or wire having a hook for engaging with the tag at one end and the other end formed into a spiral, oblong in shape, whereby the tag may be secured to the goods by a simple inward and outward movement, as shown and described.
