Description

Sept. 26, 1961 s. ALU
BOWLING GAMES Filed June 10, 1959 6 l Jl United States Patent C 3,001,794 BOWLING GAMES Salvatore Alu, Bronx, N.Y., assignor to Gotham Pressed Steel Corporation Filed June 10, 1959, Ser. No. 819,437 1 Claim. (Cl. 273-127) 'I'he object of the present invention is to provide a bowling toy of simple construction and by which, without any applied resetting mechanism, the bowling pins may be re-set simply by raising -a carrier plate, and then restoring it to initial position.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. l is a plan view of the structure;
FIG. 2 is a view in front elevation;
FIG. 3 is a fragmentary side elevation showing the manner of pivotal support for the carrier plate, the plate being in horizontal position;
FIG. 4 is `a view similar to FIG. 3, showing the carrier plate in vertical position;
FIG. 5 is a fragmentary view, in sectional elevation, showing one of the weighted pins with its pivotal connection with the carrier plate, the pin being in position to be struck by a bowling ball; and
FIG. 6 is a fragmentary section on the line 6 6, FIG. 1.
Referring to the drawings, at 1 is shown a flat support, preferably of metal, which will lie upon the door, the support having an upwardly directed back stop 2 and side stops 3, so that when a bowling ball is thrown toward and past the pins, it will strike the back stop and be repulsed backwardly toward the front of support 1.
Resting on support 1 and riveted or otherwise secured to side stop members 3, are two vertical arms 4 which carry a top cross bar 5 by means of pivot studs 6.
Riveted or otherwise secured to cross bar 5 is a carrier plate 7, preferably wedge shape in form, with its narrow area projected forwardly. This plate is formed with slots as shown at '8, FIG. 5, lfor the passage of arms 9 which are pivotally held in position on carrier plate 7 by means of pivot rods 10. Each arm at its top carries a weight 11, and at its bottom each arm carries a replica of a bowling pin 12.
In the operation of the bowling pin, a ball rolled into contact with one or more pins will rock the pin or pins ice' 12 rearwardly, so that the weight or weights 11 will be swung from the position of the weight in FIG. 5 to the left and until the gravitational action will cause the weight to drop down on the carrier plate 7', holding the pin or pins upwardly.
When the player has finished his number of ball actions with respect to a given set up of the pins, those which have been struck and held upwardly by the weights 11 will be restored to operative position by manually raising plate 7 upwardly to approximately vertical position, which will gravitationally move arms 9 to the position of FIG. 5. The carrier plate is then moved down to initial position.
It will be understood that various modications will be made in the form and arrangement of the elements illustrated in the embodiment Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I now claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows:
In a bowling game, a support, a plate held in elevated position on said support, and formed with a plurality of transverse rows of apertures, said plate lying normally in horizontal position, means pivotally connecting said plate to the support, a plurality of rows of bowling pin replicas under said Iplate, a lever arm connected to the top end of each of said bowling pin replicas, said lever arm having a rearwardly extending upwardly inclined area which directly passes through one of said apertures, and which inclined area merges into a second area, extending upwardly above the plate, said second area carrying a weight at its end, the center of gravity of the bowling pin replica and connected lever and weight, in each case, being midway between the bowling pin replica and the Weighted upstanding area of the lever, a pivotal connection between the plate and the iirst named area of the lever, and at the said center off gravity, and the weight of the lever, with its applied weight, at its area extending rearwardly of the said pivotal connection with the plate, being greater than the weight of the bowling pin replica and that part of the lever extending forwardly of said pivotal connection.
