MACHINE FOR MAKING GREEN-SAND CORES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,902, dated May 20, 1884i.
4Application filed December 152, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom, t may concern,.-
Be it known that I, J nuns ScULL, of Jersey City, Hudson county, New Jersey, have invented an Improvement in Machines for Making Green-Sand Cores, oi' which the following is a specification.
M y invention relates to that class of cores for casting termed v greensand cores 5 and it consists of improved means whereby to make the same expeditiously and without clogging the knife.
In the drawings, Figurel is a sectional elevation showing the apparatus for `carrying out my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the core. Fig. 3 is a part plan of the box and mandrel and connections.
I mount the hollow perforated mandrel A upon a suitable frame, B, above a sand-box, C, so that it can be turned by means of asuitable handle, and I throw the 'ordinary green-sand against the mandrel with such force that it will adhere to and build up thereon, for which purpose I use a guide-tube, D, and project the sand by means of revolving blades f, as shown in Fig. l. Adjacent to the mandrel is arranged a strike or forming-blade, J, which, instead of being flat, as usual, is inclined, so l that the sand scraped off out the top of the same will slide at once into the box C, instead of adhering, as usual. It is therefore not 30 necessary to move the strike, which can be kept true in place, so that all the cores are of the same size.
The guide-tube prevents the dispersion of the sand and insures its striking the mandrel 35 along the central line, so as not to be deflected.
I claiml. The combination, in a core-forming machine, of a support for a revolving mandrel,
a guide-tube, and a wheel revolving with its 4o blades projecting into said tube, to project green sand through said tube directly upon the mandrel, substantially as specified.
2. The combination of the mandrel, guidetube, and means for projecting the sand 45 through the tube against the mandrel, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof Ihave signed my name to this specication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES SCULL.
