UNITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE.
ESOM O. LEACH, OF FAIRMOUNT, INDIANA.
BRICK-MOLD SANDER.
SEECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 468,810, dated February 16, 1892.
Application filed April 9, 1891. Serial No. 388,247. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ESOM O. LEACH, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Fairmount, in the county of Grant and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Sanding Brick-Molds, of whichthe following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to .a new and improved machine for sanding brick-molds, having for its object the production of means wherebya series or plurality of molds maybe easily sanded simultaneously.
Theinvention comprises a casing or receptacle for holding sand and a revolving shaft carrying transversely-arranged correspondingbrackets moving therein for holding brickmolds.
The invention further comprises a casing or receptacle for holding sand, a revolving shaft, and two sets of brackets projecting on four sides of said shaft, said brackets being provided with extended portions whereby a brick-mold can be readily placed in position on and removed from said brackets, substantially as hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view illustrative of my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view on the line 0c 00, Fig.1. Fig. 3 is a detail view showing one of the brackets or supportingarms.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the sand-retaining casing or receptacle, preferably of semicircular form, the same being provided with a curved bottom a and two corresponding end pieces a.
B is a centrally-disposed operating-shaft journaled in the end pieces a and provided with a wheel or pulley a whereby power can be transmitted to the shaft from any suitable source. To the hub of this wheel or pulley a is secured one section of a clutch-gear b, the other section thereof being fast to shaft B.
O C designate two sets of brackets or frames rigidly secured in anysuitable manner to the shaft B. These brackets or frames are composed each of a series of four intersecting bars d (1 arranged in pairs parallel to each other.
Each pair of bars intersects and is secured to the other pair and is so arranged as to form a central opening, through which shaft B is projected. Said shaft is preferably square in cross-section, so as to provide for a snug fit for the brackets or frames. The bars d d are so arranged that their ends are dissimilar, or,
in other words, one end of bar cl projects beyond the same end of bar d, whereas at their other ends the reverse is the case. The object of this arrangement is that the longeror projected ends of one of the bars of each pair enables a mold, as M, to be readily inserted into the jaws formed by each pair of bars. It will be seen that by this arrangement four jaws are provided for the reception of the molds, and hence I am enabled to subject four different molds to the action of the sand simultaneously. This is a great desideratum in the treatment or sanding of brick-molds, resulting in the ready and easy accomplishment thereof. To the bars d are secured cross-boards E, or they may be made of sheet metal and so extended as to keep the sand .in the molds until the latter are entirely filled therewith.
My invention is extremely simple, cheap, and durable, and by means thereof the brickmaking is greatly facilitated.
I claim as my invention 1. The herein-described improved machine for sanding brick-molds, comprising the easing or receptacle, the revolving shaft, and the transversely-arranged corresponding brackets or frames secured to said shaft and having series of parallel jaws for holding and carrying brick-molds, as set forth.
2. The herein-described improved machine for sanding brick-molds, comprising the easing or receptacle, the revolving shaft, and the brackets or frames secured to said shaft and consisting each of a series of intersecting bars arranged in pairs and having jaws for receiv ing brick-molds, as set forth.
3. The combination, with the casing or receptacle and the revolving shaft, of the bars secured to said shaft having overlapping or projecting opposite ends, and the cross-pieces connected to two of said bars, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ESOM O. LEACI'I.
