To LLZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HosnA K. KRIEBEL, of West Point, county of Montgomery, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Steam-Boilers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has reference to steam-boilers 5 and it consists in providing an upright tubular boiler with a cast iron or steel dome-section arranged within the upper part of said boiler, opening into the same, and located in the path of the ilame, and in details of construction, all of which are fully set forth in the following speciiication, and shown in the accompanying drawings,whicl1 form part thereof.
The object of my invention is to increase the steam-generating capacity of the boiler and provide a' central supcrheating-dome, and at the same time strengthen the upper part of the boiler.

2 is plan view of same; and Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation of my improved cast ironor steel dome removed from the boiler proper on line g/ y.
A is the fire-box. D is the crown-sheet. B are the tubes. E is the top sheet. F is what was heretofore the steam-dome and is now steam-space. C is the upper or smoke box.
The above is the ordinary construction of boiler, and my improvement is as follows: Within the upper box, C, I locate the cast iron or steel dome G, of peculiar construction. The body consists of two egg-shaped passages, H H, having curved flanges, as at h, on their outer ends, and opening intoeach other, their point of juncture being enlarged into the spherical dome J, provided with the steamexit aperture K, into which a steam-pipe, L,
screws. For almost the full length of the parts H H their bottoms are open, extending downsomewhat, as at I,`and provided with iianges z'. This T- dome Gis placed in the box O, as shown, and the ianges h riveted to the side sheets, C, through which holes c are cut, and the flange z' fits upon the top sheet and is riveted thereto, it also being provided with an aperture, e. The side walls of this dome G slant outward as they rise, as shown in Fig. 1,
so as to receive the fheat as it rises from the tubes B, which are arranged on each side thereof, as shown in Fig. 2. The water circulates,through apertures c and e, into and out of the dome, the water-line being substantially halfway up, as indicated by the dotted lines z z, thereby allowing the steam to pass freely from space. F, through sections H H, into the dome J, from which it passes by pipe L.
While I prefer the construction of the T- dome G shown, I do not limit myself to its exact details, as it may be modified in various ways without departing from my invention. For instance, the dome may be formed of sheet metal, stamped or otherwise formed, and riveted into shape shown.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A steam-boiler provided with a steamdome located in its upper or combustion chamber, the said dome consisting of an invertedpear-shap ed center part, from which the steam is directly carried from the boiler, and two large egg-shaped tubular extensions extending from said pear-shaped center opening therein, and also through the inner walls of the combustion-chamber, to which they are secured, the said parts opening. through the iioor of said chamber between rows of tubes, thereby forming a rigid staying system for the boiler and allowing free circulation of the steam and water, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a steam-boiler, a cast-metal steamdome located in the upper box, said dome opening through the inner walls and floor of said box into the steam and water spaces of the boiler, said dome extending across thesaid combustion chamber or box of the boiler, and secured to the walls thereof', and located between the outlets of two rows of tubes, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. A cast-metal dome for steam-boilers, consisting of parts H H, J, and I, the partsHbeing for the circulation of both water and steam, and are secured to the inner walls or shell of the boiler, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
