PATENT CHRISTOPHER MAT'IIOE, OF DELHI, NEW YORK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 298,600, dated May 13, 1884.
' Application filed December 10, 1883. (No model.)
To all wit/07111 it may concern:
Beit known that I, CHRISTOPHER Mn'r'rlcn, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Delhi, in the county of Delaware and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gages for Cutting Oar-Braces and other Irons, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in gages for cutting carbraces; and it is an improvement on the device for which Letters Patent were granted to me August 28, 1883, No. 284,035; and its object is to insure precision and greater facility in cutting the said braces, as will more fully hereinafter appear.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved gage adjusted to a carbrace ready to be trimmed or cut. Fig. 2 is a similar view, in which a modification of my invention is shown; and Fig. 3, a similar View of the gage with the brace removed.
A indicates the gage, which is preferably bent to conform to the shape of the braces O. The ends a c of the gage are re-enforced, and the faces a of the ends are made concave, so as to facilitate their adjustment against the blade of the shears.
B B are set-screws, which pass through the gage and impinge upon the brace C, so as to press it rigidly against the guards D D, so that said brace may be cut by the shears without any danger of the gage or brace shifting their relative positions. The strapguards D D are 3 5 secured to the upper side of the gage A by bolts (1 d, and are bent around and down across the under side of the bottom of the gage, so as to form a recess, (2", into which the brace is to be inserted.
In the modification shown in Fig. 2 the clamps E are employed, which are slipped over the ends of the brace and gage, as indicated. These clamps are provided with set-screws B B, which impinge against the brace, and serve, in connection with the set-screws B B, to more securely hold the same in position while being trimmed.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
The combination, with the gage A, having strap-guards D D and set-screws B B, of the clamps E, having set-screws B B, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affi x my signature 1n presence of two witnesses.
CHRISTOPHER MATTIGE.
