.J. O. N. GUIBERT & W. ANDRUS. ADJUSTABLE SHEQLFHFOR HOLDING FIRE HOSE.
Patented May 13, 1884:.
N. wnzns. nvwums hm Washinxmm DC.
JOHN C. N. GUIBER'I AND WVILLIAM M. ANDRUS, OF N EV YORK, N. Y.
ADJUSTABLE SHELF FOR HCLDING FIRE-=HOSE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,372, dated May 13, 1884.
Application filed March 510, 1884,
$ all whom, it may concern Be it known that we, JOHN G. N. GUIBERT and WILLIAM M. ANDRUs, both of the city of New York, county and State of New York, are the joint inventors of an Improvement in Adjustable Shelves for Holding Fire-Hose Ready for Use, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the drawings accompanying the same, in which Figure l is a side view ofourinvention containing lire-hose ready for use. Fig. 2 is a face view of the shelf when resting against the wall or partition, as shown in dotted line A, and a like view of the shelf when thrown out at right angles to the wall, the hose having been removed, as at .B.
Our invention consists of a shelf adjustable to a wall, on which fire-hose rests, and from which shelf the hose may be readily run off without twisting, as hereinafterdescribed.
G is the hose, which may be of any suitable kind now usually employed.
D is the body or bottom shelf, on which the hose rests when not in use.
E E E are stanchions or upr-ightsthree on each side of said shelfD-and, fastened in the holders 6 0 6 project at right angles to the shelf D, and serve to hold the hose on theshelf.
G is a bracket fastened to the wall, partition, 850., H. On one end this bracket has the plate J, whereby it is attached or fastened to the wall by nails or other means. On its other end it has lug or projection I, over which the eyelet in the projection formed on shelf D sets, and on which the shelf is operated.
K is an arm or brace serving as a support or brace to shelf D, fastened to said shelf at any required and proper distance, and at the other end, attached or working on lug j in plate L, which plate is fastened to wall Hlike bracket G. ,It will be readily seen that the arm or brace K can thus move as the shelf D is moved.
M is the nozzle or end of the water-pipe, to which one end of the hose is suitably attached, and the nozzle N is on the other end of hose 0. The water-supply through pipe or nozzle M may be cut off by any of the usual means employed for that purpose. We do not deem it (No model.)
necessary to show any appliance here. The shelf D may have aperforated bottom, the entire structure-shelf, stanchions, or uprightsbeing formed of light metal, so as to obtain the greatest carrying capacity, and yet have the required strength. The uprights E may be fastened to shelf D either by nut and screw or by other means. The shelf D may be cast or made separate from the projection or arm containing eyelet O, and a brace, P, be used, as shown by dotted lines in B, Fig. 2. The shell" D is adjusted to the wall by means of eyelet 0, over lug I on plate J, and the brace K is fixed under and supports it. The stanchions E are then placed in position on shelf D and hose 0 laid in, one end thereof being connected to the water pipe or nozzle M, and. the free end having the nozzle N resting on the folds of the hose. As thus prepared, the shelf is turned in out of the way against the wall, as in A, Fig. 2. use the hose. The shelf is instantly turned out at the angle required to the walls, the nozzle N is pulled off the shelf D between the end uprights or stanchions, E E, and the It is now requiredto 7 hose run out to its length without a twist.
\Vhen at its length, water is turned on through pipe M. It will be found by this process that no twists occur in the hose, as now is liable, and that the hose is always accessible, and that when replaced, after use, on the shelf D has a better opportunity to dry. The hose is also out of the way and less liable to be injured.
What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A shelf adjusted for holding fire-hose at any elevation desired, substantially as described, andfor the purpose specified. 2. A shelf adjusted for holding fire-hose at any elevation desired, in combination with brace, brackets, and uprights, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
\Vitness our hands this 27th day of March, A. D. 1884.
