A principal object of this invention is to so construct a drill jumbo as to provide for exceptional compactness when not in use, without sacrificing requisite breadth for work purposes. v
Another object is to provide a drill jumbo that can be easily lowered through the hoist section of a sectional timber set in a shaft being sunk, and, after reaching the bottom, be structurally expanded so as to comprehend the cross-sectional area of the shaft and place the individual drills at the outskirts thereof for work purses.
poA. feature of preferred embodiments of the invention for the accomplishment of these objects is the provision of an umbrella-style platform that mounts the individual rock drills, and the provision of mechanism for raising and lowering such platform in order to bring the equipment into working position from collapsed position and vice versa.
Additional objects and features of the invention will become apparent fromv the following detailed description of the presently preferred specific embodiment 'illustrated in the accompanying drawings as an example of how the generic inventive concepts here disclosed may be applied in practice. i

Theseplatform` sections serve to mount universally.movablejaekdrill assemblies' 17 for Iextension and retraction relative thereto` into and out of relatively widely spaced work positions disposed laterally of such platform sections.
In the illustrated construction, the jack drill assemblies are articulatively mounted on the respective platform sections V16 by means of arms 18, which are each laterally extensible and retractible relative to its platform sections by means of pivotal securement 18-1 of its inner end to an inner corner of such platform sections. Latching means. are provided for retaining arms 18 in retracted or extended position, as desired. In the form shown, Figs. 5 and 7, the respective latching means comprise latch bolts 19 resiliently mounted, by means of co'il springs 2,0, in and between the spaced plates ISa, Fig. 7, of lugs 18-1, which project from arms 18, respectively. Such latching means further comprise keeper holes 21 drilled or otherwise provided through and at appropriate loca-` tions in the respectiveplatform sections 16 for receiving` latch bolts 19. Latch-strings 22A hang from latchbolts 19, respectively, for convenient manipulation by the drilling crew. l
Means are provided for raising the platform sections 16 into extended, working positions and for lowering them into collapsed positions. In this illustrated embodiment, such means comprise links 23 pivoted at one set of ends to wings 15a, respectively, of slide 15 by means of pins` 24 andpivoted at theother set of ends to the outer end portions of platformsections 16,V respectively, by means of pins 25. Such means also comprise means for raising and lowering the slide 15, which preferably constitutesmechanismr housed within the post. In the preferred form illustrated, the raising and lowering mechanism is a chain hoist 26operably mounted in'housing -,11, with its load chain 27, Fig. 4, hooked onto engagement member'rlSb of slide 15 and its hand chain28, Fig. 8, hangingvoutside v of post10.
