LADIES GARMENT Filed July 17, 1959 INVENTOR SAMUEL L. WELSCH HIS ATTORNEY.
LADIES GARMENT Samuel L. Welsch, 341 Redmond Road,
South Orange, NJ.
Filed July 17, 1959, Ser. No. 827,804
1 Claim. (Cl. 128-541) This invention relates to ladies undergarments and relates more particularly to a girdle and/or to a panty type of girdle formed with elastic panels of special contour and so positioned as to achieve a desired shaping of the figure, especially in the rear area of the wearer below the waist line.
An important object of the invention is to provide a waist encircling garment with a plurality of elastic panels, same having a two-way stretch, i.e., having elastic threads extending in both a horizontal and a vertical direction, and others having only a one-way stretch, so shaped and combined as to distribute excess flesh in the buttocks and back waist section toward the, rear center of the body and thus produce a substantially flat contour while at the sametime permitting freedom of motion during Walking or dancing.
At its front the garment of the present invention is so formed as to achieve a maximum compression and flattening of the abdomen without discomfort to the wearer but the greater novelty is in the construction of the rear of the garment which produces the sidewise displacement of the flesh towards the rear central section.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 shows the part of the garment in position on the wearer.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is similar to Figure 2 but shows the improved garment embodied in a girdle without a crotch section.
The front of the garment, in the present invention, at the center thereof, is occupied by a substantially pear shaped elastic panel having a one-way stretch, i.e., in a vertical direction, as indicated by the single vertical arrow. A panel 11 having a two-way stretch is positioned on each side of the front central panel and its front, generally concave edge is joined to the generally convex edge of panel 10, on each side of the garment by a stitch line 12.
These side panels extend around the side of the garment and into the rear section as shown at 13 in Figure 2. This rear section is comprised of a central panel 14, having a two-way stretch and provided with opposed concave edges 15 which converge somewhat near their upper ends to form a narrowed upper section 16. The
panels having a one-way stretch extending in a verti- United States Patent 9 cal direction and being formed with concave inner edges 21 and convex outer edges 22. These panels are of substantially the same width throughout their lengths. The adjoining edges of panels 11 are shaped complementary to these convex edges and the respective edges may be joined together by invisible stitch lines.
A separate crotch portion 25 is made from foraminous material joined along its opposed edges to suitable edge portion of blanks 11 and 14. An elastic band 26 extends around the upper margin of the garment and separate elastic bands 27 extend around the leg openings at the lower end of the garment.
In the modified arrangement of Figure 3 the crotch portion is eliminated and the rear central panel 30 with its. one-Way vertical stretch has opposed vertical edges 31 which are curved over their entire length and the lower portion 32 is only slightly wider than the upper section 33. The panels 34 lying on each side of the rear central panels have opposed convex and concave edges 35-36 and are of substantially the same shape as the panels 20 of Figure 2. The panels 37 extending around to the front of the garment are not modified from their showing in Figures 1 and 2.
While there have been described herein what are at present considered preferred embodiments of the invention, it will be obvious to those skilled in the art that many modifications and changes maybe made therein without departing from the essenceof the invention. It is therefore to be understood that the exemplary embodi- 'ments are illustrative and not restrictiveto the invention,
the scope of which is defined in the appended claim, and that all modifications that come within the meaning and rangeof equivalency of the claim are intended to be included therein.
What I claim is:
A garment formed from a plurality of elastic panels joined together along their opposed edges to form at waist encircling section and including a front central panel having opposed, generally convex edges and side panels extending from the front central panel around to the rear of the garment said panels having a two-way stretch, a rear central panel having a two-way stretch and provided with opposed convexly curved edges and a pair of rear side panels joined to opposite sides of the rear central panel and to the side panels, each of said rear side panels having a stretch extending in a vertical direction only and provided on one side thereof with a concave edge joined to the rear central panel and on its other side with a convex edge and being of substantially the same width throughout its length.
