Be it known that I, WILLIAM T. RIGHT- MYER, of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Pens, of which the following is a specification.

The object of myimprovement is to produce a pen having a slitted concavo-convex nib, as I believe that a pen of that character will afford greater facility for writing them one having angular nibs.

My improvement consists of a pen having a concavo-convex nib, the upper surface of which is concaved longitudinally of the pen and the under surface or contact-point convexed. r

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of a pen embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a section of the same, taken transversely through the nibs; and Fig. 3 is a side view of a pen of modified form, and of a holder.

Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures.

A designates the shank or body of the pen, and B designates the nibs thereof. This pen may be made of steel or other suitable metal.

The pen shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is of the usual form in respect to its nibs being approximately in line with the body, but the pen shown in Fig. 3 hasthe nibs and adjacent portion bent out of line with the shank or body, so that when the shank or body is inserted in a holder of ordinary size, the nibs will be opposite the center of the holder. is shown in dotted lines in this figure, to illustrate the position which the nibs of the pen will occupy with relation to the holder. The pens shown in all the figures have their nibs bent into concavo-convex form, as shown more particularly in Fig. 2, the nib portion being rounded on both sides in the form of a hollow cylinder.

In making a pen embodying the improve ment, I first form a blank in the ordinary or any other approved manner, but make the nib portion wider than the width which the nibs are to have when the pen is completed. After this blank is completed, the nib portion is bent into concavo-convex form, and subsequently it is slitted centrally in the usual manner with shears or otherwise.

A pen embodying my improvement will be less liable to catch in the paper than a pen having angular nibs, and hence can be moved with greater facility in a variety of directions as it approximates to a lead-pencil point.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The Writing-pen herein described, provided with a slitted concavo-convex nib or point, the upper surface of which is concaved longitudinally of the pen, and the under surface or contact-point convened, as and for the purposes herein specified.
