UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE MULLER, or NEW YORK, iv. Y.
EXTENSION-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.7296,434., dated April 8, 1884.
Application filed October 26, 1883. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom dma/y concern.
5 Tables; and the following is declared to be a description of the same.
Tables have heretofore been made having drop-leaves and swinging legs for supporting the saine.
My invention relatesto this class of tables; and it consists in the particular manner of constructing the sliding support for the moving legs andthe shelves therewith connected.
I prefer to make my improved table of hexagen-al shape when fully extended, and I enr ploy six legs, two of which, together with their frames and shelves, slide, the four others be-l ing connected firmly with the side and end frames and main part of the table-top, and I 2o employ drawers which are placed in this portion of the table. The table-top is made in three parts, the side leaves being hinged to the loblong central portion, and these side leaves are allowed to hang perpendicularly 25. with the sides of the table after the sliding 3o sectional plan ofthe same at -gz/ gy. Fig. 3 is a seetion at the line .t x, and Fig. 4 represents the end of one of the shelves and a section. of the leg and slide.
The table isoomposed ofthe legs a b c d ef.
The legs ab c d are connected by the side frames, g g,and end frames, hh', and the tabletop k is also secured to these legs and frames, and the tabledrawers i o o slide between the side frames, g g', in the usual grooved ways or The leaves n u are hinged to the edges of the table-top k. To the leg e is secured one of the sliding frames composed of the perpendicular partition Z and horizontal shelf m. yl'o the leg f is secured the other and similar frame, composed of the slide-partition Z and shelf in. The shelves m m slide at their ends in grooves in the inner side of the end frames, h h', and said shelves are wider between said end frames, h h', and are notched to form stops that bear against thelegs o e and b d when the sides are drawn ont to their full limit. It will be noticed that the slidepar tition l is deeper than the slide-partition Z, bringing the shelf ni lower than m, and that its ends' slide in lower grooves. The side frames, g g', are slot-'ted perpendicularly for the passage of the slide-partitionsll, and horizontally for the passage of the shelves m m.
Upon the under side of the table-top [c there are secured grooved strips r, and these strips are located between the side frames, y g', and the slide-partitions Z Z' are niade with beaded upper edges ats s', and these beaded edges are held by and slide between the grooved strips r, so that the parts are therebyT kept steadily and truly in place, and the table is p thus made firm and reliable.
The shelves on m may be utilized for receiving and holding dishes, cards, or any small articles, and the drawers o o may be divided by boxes or partitions in any desired manner, to hold various gaines, &o.
I claim as iny inventionl. The combination, in a table, with the legs a b c d, side frarnes` g g', end frames, h h', top k, and grooved strips r, of the legs ef, slidepartitions l l and shelves m m', and hinged leaves n, n', the parts being constructed and arranged so that the said slide-partitions and shelves can be pushed into the body of the table to allow the leaves to fall, as set forth.
2. In a table, the oonibination,with the legs e f, and slide-partitions Z Z and shelves m m', of the grooved strips i', the side frames, g y', slot- `ted for the passage of the slide-partitions,and
