JACOBS W. SCHUOKERS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO GEORGE B. COLLIER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR BOOK-CASES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,046. dated June 5, 14877; application filed May 4, 1877. [Term of Patent 7 years] To all whom t may concern Beit known that I, J AcoBs W. ScEUcKERs, ofthe city, county, and State of New York, have originated and Designed a Book-Gase, of which the following is a specilication, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is an isometrical view of a bookcase according to my design, and Fig. 2 a horizontal section of the same.
The book-case is vertical, and of rectangular form, having upon two diametrically-opposite sides a series of horizontal shelves, a, each of which extends the clear distance between two vertical end boards b, the width of each of which is about equal to, or slightly greater than, that ot' the shelves, and which constitute parts of two opposite sides of the case, being set perpendicular to the ends of the shelves a. In the space between the two end boards b, on each of these last-named sides, I place a series of short horizontal shelves, c, extending from one board to the other.` The shelves c may be equal to or greater or less in number than the shelves a, and vertical partitions, forming compartments or pigeon-holes, may, if desired, be inserted between them without departing 'om the spirit of my design, the characteristic feature of which consists inwprovidng shelves having a clear length of opening for books on two diametrically-opposite sides, and end boards and intermediate short shelves on the other two sides. The end boards b. may be paneled, beaded, or otherwise ornamented, and a suitable top, d, and bottom e are to be added.
My book-case may be framed together in any approved manner, and is specially adapted to be mounted on and rotated upon a central support or pintle, but is likewise suited to be permanently secured to a base or stand, if preferred.
