Description

L. KAZAR.
Mole-Plow.
No. 29,601. Patented Aug 14, 1860 jnuenl o i @MO M I 7M,
UNITED "STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LA'IHROP KAZAR, OF LEROY, ILLINOIS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 29,601, dated August 14, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LATHROP KAZAR, of Leroy, in the county of McLean and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mole-Flows, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a plan or top view; Fig. 2, a plan of the under side; Fig. 3, aside, Fig. 4 a rear, and Fig. 5 a front, elevation of a machine embracing my improvement.
My improvement consists in a new and improved mode of constructing the mole or drain plow, by means of which, while the upper part of the underground or ditch is left in a solid and compact form, the sides and bottom will be left uncompressed, that the water may percolate freely through then1an object of the greatest practical importance, as without it such drains or ditches would be of no value.
To enable others skilled in the art to make, construct, and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe it, omitting such parts of the machine as are not essential to a full understanding of my improvement.
In the accompanying drawings, the machine is represented as consisting of two landsides, A, connected together by a top or plane, B, set at an acute angle to the plane or path of motion of the machine, and projecting over the sides to such an extentas to preventtheirbeingbrought in contact with the sides ofthe drain as formed,
to prevent compression of the soil. To the rear end of this top is hinged an apron, O, which rests on a. supporting wheel or pulley, D, of which there are several in a set, so that by removing one and substituting another of greater or less diameter the apron may be adjusted to make a large or small drain, as required. The laudsides are also made to project below the base of the plow, so as to form runners, as it were, on which theplow is to slide, to prevent compression of the bottom of the drain. Near the upper end of the plane B is passed or pierced an opening through the solid part of the plow, for the purpose of attaching the power by which the plow is to be propelled.
In the drawings, the inclined top or plane B is represented as being of an equal width throughout; but it may, if desired, be made of a diamond or other suitable shape.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The peculiar arrangement of the landsides A with respect to the adjustable apron O, as operated, and inclined plane D, the whole being constructed in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereofl hereunto set my hand to this specification.
