SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 295,912, dated April 1, 1884.

Be it known that I, THERON S. E. DIXON, of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois,- have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hasp-Locks, of which the following is'a description, reference being `had to the accompanying drawings, in which.-

The object of my invention is to dispense with the employment in connection with a look of a separate hasp `or hasp and pivoted hook; and it consists in certain improvements,

which will hereinafter be described, and point- `ed out in the claims. l

In the form of my invention illustrated in the drawings, A represents the-lock, which maybe of any suitable style, form, or construction." B is the shackle, bow, or link of the lock, and which in the ordinary construcend of the shackle being provided with any appropriate slot or notch for the reception of the bolt within the lock. or linkB, with its arm G, serves not only as a bow for the lock, but also `as a hasp and hook as well, thus dispensing with the necessity for theadditional employment of these articles in connection with the lock. v

In operation, when it is desired to fasten the shackle, the lock A is swung around upon and the outer end ofthe shackle is inserted within the staple E, when thelock is returned to place,'so as to inclose the outer end of the shackle, and the key is turned. ing of the mechanism is avoided. In the modification of my invention shown in Fig. 4 the shackle B is provided with a short projection or arm, b, which may be inserted as a hook in the staple when the lock is left unlocked.
