HENRY ROREBECK, OF PARMA, ASSIGNOR 'TO ANDREW V. SMITH, OF i ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
COMBINED BRIDLE AND HALTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 295,812, dated March 25, 1884.
Application filed October 12,1883. (No model.) l
To LEZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that JI, HENRY ROREBEOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Parma, in the county of Monroe and State of New Yorlnhave invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Rope Halters and Bridles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the sanne, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which, form a part of this specification.
My invention is a combined halter and bridle, and embraces the following peculiar features: the headstall, check-straps, bit-rings, and hitch-rope, all formedof one and the same piece of halter-rope; also, the forestall or frontlet and nose-strap, fastened to said rope in proper position by rivets; and, lastly, a cruciforin throat-latch having upon the lower ends and the ofiside upper end suitable rings by `which to attach the same to the branches of the hitch-rope, and upon the near-side upper end a suitable snaphook by which to secure the device upon the horses head, all of which is hereinafter more fully described, and illustrated by the accompanying drawing,in which letters represent the respective parts of my invention.
The gure illustrates a perspective view of my device.
The letter A represents the said halter-bridle, in which one length of hitch-rope a is made to form the bit-rings b, cheek-cords c, and headstall d of the halter, as shown. This is done by suitably measuring off the length of the portion of the rope a required to form the aforesaid head parts. Then, having bent or twisted the ropeinto a round loop for the nearfside bit-ring, as shown, fasten the same to the near end' of the nose-strap e by stitching or riveting. Then, leaving a sufficient length for cheek-cords c and headstall d, form the offside bit-ring, as before, opposite the former one; and, finally, after running a suitable ring on each branch of the fork-piece o, hereby made, join and fasten the end of theremainder of the rope to the main or hitch piece a, cit-her by wrapping or a thimble, h, of metal or leather, as shown. The usual `forestall or frontlet, f,is riveted to the hcadstall, as shown, and is provided with a suitable ring riveted at or upon each end thereof. The throatlatch g is made of two suitable leather straps riveted together in cruciforin, as shown, and
.has its lower ends also riveted each to one of the said rings running on the branches of said fork-piece o, while the off-side upper end is riveted to the ring on the forestall f, and the nearside upper end is snap-hool ed to near end of said frontlet.
The above halter is readily converted into a bridle by fastening the rein bitrings to the 65 and bridle, A, in which the bit-loops b, the 8o cheek-cords c, and the headstall d are all formed of one and the same piece of rope, in combination with the riveted leather frontlet f, nosestrap 6,. and cruciform throat-latch g, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
