This invention relates to a carrying case in the nature of a piece of luggage for the storage, carrying and shipping of caps, particularly caps of the general shape and contour of oiieers caps. p

One of the primary objects of the invention consists in the provision of a case having a block of material, such as plastic or the like, shaped to the configuration of a portion of the cap, together with means for releasably securing the cap tothe block.

A further object of the invention resides in providing a traveling case in which the means for supporting and securing the cap therein may be readily applied to the case when it is to be used as a carrying case for caps or removed from the case when the case may be required for other purposes.

A still further object of the .invention consists in providing a cap carrying case for one or two caps, in which means is also provided for the reception or storage of a thin document case or loose papers. 4

IOther objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which,

Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the case showing the contents in dotted outline;

Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional |view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1;

Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1; and

Figure 4 is a front elevational view of the hat-supporting block and the fastening means for the caps attached thereto.

Referring to the drawings in greater detail and by reference numerals, ythe body of the case, which in the present illustration is of rectangular form, is indicated generally by the numeral 1, and is formed of end walls 2, front and back walls 3, and botom 4.

The top of the case is indicated by the numeral 5 and is likewise of rectangular form, and as here shown, is hinged to the back wall "of the body of the case as indicated by the numeral 6, and may be locked in closed position by any type of fastener 7. A pivoted handle 5 is provided on the top of the case for transportation purposes.

Detachably secured to the bottom 'oor of the body of the container, as by snap fasteners 8, is a rectangular block 9 adapted to receive the lower edge of the cap when positioned within the ca'se. To this end, the block 9 is formed with arcuate cut-out portions arranged in stepped relationship as indicated by reference numerals 10 and 1'1 to receive, respectively, the lower portion of the head band of the cap and the lower portion of the crown of the cap as more cle-arly indicated in Fig. 3. For the purpose of securing the cap in yits nested position within the stepped portions 10 and 11 of the block 9, flexible strap means 12 are provided, having their inner ends xed to the stepped portion 10 of the block in any preferred manner, as indicated by the numeral 13, and the free end of one of the strap members is provided with a conventional buckle 14, while the free end of the other member is provided with spaced apertures 1S for receiving the pin of the conventional belt buckle. It will be understood that any preferred type of conventional belt buckle may be substituted for that generally indicated by the numeral 14.

lIn the present illustration, two of these hat-receiving and supporting blocks 9 are provided, but it will be understood that number may be increased or diminished as desired. Also, it is to be noted that a vertical partition 16 is positioned in one side of the body of the case to the right of the caps shown in Fig. 3, to provide a compartment 17 for the reception of a thin document case or loose papers.

In -the use of the traveling case, the ofcers cap is positioned on the stepped block 9 in the manner clearly indicated in iFig. 3, with the top of the cap adjacent a side Wall of the case, while the visor extends toward the partition 16. The strap members 12-12 `are then drawn more or less tightly over the head band and their ends secured together in the usual manner by belt buckle 14, thus firmly holding the cap in its position upon the block during transportation. As just stated above, if desired, the pocket 17 may be employed for the storage and transportation of a `document case or the like, or this feature of the case may be entirely eliminated, if preferred.

According to the patent statutes, I have described what I now believe to be the preferred form of the invention, but inasmuch as various minor changes may be made in the structural details Without departing from the spirit of the invention, it is intended that all such variations be included within the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

l. A cap case comprising a body portion, a closure portion connected thereto, a block of material seated on the bottom of the body portion, said block having its upper portion concaved to conform tothe curvature of the cap and stepped so as to snugly receive both the head band and the crown of the cap, and a pair of straps each having one end secured lto the concaved portion of the block, the opposite ends of the straps being provided with complementary fastening means, whereby the cap may be releasably secured to the block.

2. A cap case comprising a body portion, a closure portion connected thereto, a lblock of material seated on the bottom of the body portion, said block having its upper portion concaved to conform to the curvature of the cap and stepped so as to snugly receive both the head band and the crown of the cap, snap fasteners detachably securing the block to the bottom of the case, and a pair of straps each having one end secured to the concaved portion of the block, the opposite ends of the straps being provided with complementary fastening means, whereby the cap may be releasably secured to the block.

3. A cap case comprising a body portion, a closure portion connected thereto, a rectangular block of material seated on the bottom of the body portion and detachably secured thereto by four snap fasteners flexibly connected to the four corners of the block for cooperation with four complementary fastening elements connected to the body portion of the case, said block of material having its upper portion concaved to conform to the curvature of the cap and stepped so as to snugly receive both the head band and the crown of the cap, and a pair of straps each having one end secured to the concaved portion of the block, the opposite ends of the straps provided with complementary fastening means, whereby the cap may be releasably secured to the block.
