Description

GIRDLE Filed April 10, 1959 FIG.I
INVENTOR.
United States Patent GIRDLE Bette K. Kaupp, New York, N.Y., assignor to Maiden Form Brassiere Co., Inc., New York, N.Y., a corporation of New York Filed Apr. 10, 1959, Ser. No. 805,394
2 Claims. (Cl. 128- 548) The object of the present invention is to provide a girdle which will better control problem areas of the wearer, particularly at the abdomen and the bulge which almost invariably forms in the use of girdles just above the same at the back of the wearer. The characteristic of the invention is that elastic abdomen-controlling crossed bands, entirely free except at their ends, lead directly to an elastic band lying above the waist area of the girdle and providing a control for such a back bulge of the wearer. In other words, the elastic band pull across the abdomen is directly tied into the pull on the back of the wearer above the waist line.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. l is a view in front elevation of the girdle, partly broken away, and indicating by dotted lines the partial outline of the wearer.
Fig. 2 is an isometric view looking at the back of the girdle and with dotted lines indicating the wearer.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation, dotted lines indicating the wearer, and
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the girdle, folded flat and looking at its front.
Referring to the drawings, the girdle consists of a front panel 1 rising to a waist line at 2x, its top preferably being curved as shown. This panel will hereinafter be termed the front-center panel. The front-center panel 1 is seamed to the front side panels 2, which in turn are seamed to the back outer panels 3, the latter being connected to back panel 4. Back panel 4 preferably is substantially inelastic transversely thereof, but is elastic longitudinally, whereas the panels 2 and 3 have two-way stretch. The front-center panel is preferably like back panel 4 in longitudinal elasticity without free elasticity transversely thereof.
The base line of the girdle has seamed thereto an elastic band 5, to which garter straps and buckles 6 may be attached.
As hereinbefore stated, the waist line of the garment is at 2x, Figs. 1 and 2; and extending across the back of the garment, above the waist line and seamed thereto, is a longitudinally elastic band 7 which may extend forwardly into two extensions 7x, but which preferably terminates at each opposite side of the garment at a normally vertical seam, one of the seams being shown at 8. The said seam, when employed, joins elastic back band 7 with extension 7x of said band. The ends of elastic band extension 7x cross each other over front panel 1 and their ends are seamed at the seam-jointure of frontcenter panel 1 with panels 2.
The drawings, particularly Figures 1 to 3, show that when the garment is worn there is continuous elastic pressure by elastic band 7 and its abdominally crossed elastic extensions, across the back of the wearer at the area above the top waist line of the girdle, to control the usual back bulge, such pressure being transmitted to approximately the center of the abdomen, and vice-versa, and this pressure, which is really a long easy pull, provides the necessary control with comfort to the wearer.
It is preferred that elastic band 7 and its extension 7x have a Width of about two and one half inches, to provide adequate control and yet prevent any pseudo-bandaging effect at the front of the girdle.
It will be understood that certain modifications may be made in the form and arrangements of the elements constituting the embodiment illustrated in the drawings, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
It will be seen from Fig. 4 that the elastic band extensions 2x at the :front of the girdle rise above the front girdle waist line 2x, and that the top of center panel 1 is slightly lower than the tops of panel 2, and that the said elastic extensions 7x are free except at their ends.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
1. In a girdle constructed of a plurality of elastic panels which are seamed together, the panels providing a normal waist line, of a longitudinally elastic back band seamed to the top of the girdle at its back, the said elastic back band being provided with two extensions, each of which leads from the top of the back band in a downward angle across the front vertical center line of the girdle, said elastic extensions crossing each other, and their ends at the front of the girdle being seamed thereto, said elastic extensions being free except at their end attachments, the front portion of said girdle comprising two outermost panels and a central panel, the panels being seamed together, one of the elastic extensions of the elastic back band leading downwardly at an angle across the central panel and having its end joined to the juncture between said central panel and the adjacent front outermost panel, the second elastic extension being led downwardly at an angle, crossing the first extension and being seamed at the juncture of the central panel and the appropriate front outermost panel.
2. A girdle constructed in accordance with claim 1, the front portion thereof comprising two outermost panels and a central panel, the .panels being seamed together, one of the elastic extensions of the elastic back band leading downwardly at an angle across the central panel and .having its end joined to the juncture between said central panel and the adjacent front outermost panel, the second. elastic extension being led downwardly at an angle, crossing the first extension and being seamed at the juncture of the central panel and the appropriate front outermost panel.
