SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 295,066, dated March 11, 1884.
.-lpplicuiion filed OCE-loller 5, 1898. (No modell V a .To al@ refr/0m it 712160,11/ conce/v2,
Be it known that l, GEORGE W. Snoo'r, a
citizen ofthe United States, residing at Tash-V ington, in the District of Columbia, have in- 5 vented certain new and useful Improvements in Tobacco-Pipes; andldo hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, und exactdescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to ro make and use the suine.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in pipes for smoking tobacco; und it consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of the parts, as will i5 be hereinafter fully explained and specifically claimed, reference being had to therdrawingsv herewith iiledus part hereof, and in which siniilur letters oi' reference relate to the saure puris. 2O

and showingl a modification in the outside finish oi' the detziehable piece completing the bowl of the pipe. Fig. et is atop view of the bottom piecewth the outside finish, as shown 3o in l.
A is the bowl,l the lower part of which isheilig screwed thereto, as shown in Figs. 1,l '45 2, 3. Thebottoni piece, C, is ribbed, asshown at c', Figs. l and et, or eheelr-grooved, as shown at c in Fig. 3, for the purpose of fa- Figure l is a side elevation of my improve,
cilitating the removal and adjustment of the piece G by a iirni hold thereon. For this purpose ribbing the outside of the piece C, us shown at c in Figs. 1 and 4, is preferable. y The piece C may and should be so dimensioned that it may be attached to a teinplet provided with a screwthreuded projection corresponding to the threaded recess in said piece, whereby the saine may be attached to said texnpl'et, and thus be rapidly and econoinicully finished to the proper size und provided with ribs', as shown. rihe piece C may also be affixed to u templet in the same 60 niemeer, and checlc-grooved, us shown at c,
' rlhe chamber a. of the pipeniay be provided with a lining of nieers'chauni or other suitable material, as shown and referred to by ai in Fig. k2. lVhen the bowl is so lined, thelining should extend from thetop of the pipe to the end of the screxvlthreaded extension a, with the edge of which it should have an even and srnootliA finish, in order that a perfect lioint may be formed with the corresponding part of thepiece C, and thus prevent the nicotine or fire, is the cese may. be, from fouling or disabling the screw-threads by contee-t therewith. lVhen the pipe is lined, the lining should be perforated, as shown at e", to correspond with the draft e of the stein E E', which may be made in two parts by screw-joint or otherwise, as indicated at e, Fig. l, and more fully illustrated at c" in Fig. 2. The boivl should be also provided with a lid or cover, D, which may be secured fromV loss by chain d, connecting` with the ring d around the stern E. The lid D should have the usual perforations, to facilitate the draft und burning ofthe charge.
The use of the within-described improved pipe may be continued Without the necessity of relighting by removing the piece (land inverting the pipe, after which the remaining go portion ofthe y)charge containing1 the iire may be moved to the top of the bowl and the saine conveniently recharged. from the bottoni.
Having thus explained the construction and operation of my improvement, what I claim threaded to engage the threaded portion of as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
