SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 294,150, dated February 26, 1884.

apparatus; and it has for its object to produce a bathing apparatus which shall be simple in construction, inexpensive, capable of being taken apart and packed in a small space, and by which a bath may be conveniently and quickly produced.

To this end it consists in the improved construction and arrangementof parts, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure l is a perspective view, part of the side of the casing having been broken away for the purpose of showing the construction more clearly. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken through the casing with the bath in position. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view of the casing folded.

A in the drawings designates a casing or cabinet adapted to contain the various bathing appliances appertaining to my invention. Said casing or cabinet is constructed with a view to being folded, so as to be readily moved from one room to another, and yet be sufficiently roomy to contain the bathtub and afford space for the bather, and, if necessary, for an attendant. The bottom of said cabinet consists of two long shallow pans, B and C, constructed of or lined with sheet metal, arranged side by side, and of such sizes relatively that the front pan, B, may be set and fitted within the rear pan, 0. The rear wall, D, of the casing or cabinet is attached vertically to the rear edge of the rear pan, 0. Said rear wall is of the entire height of the cabinet, and is at right angles to the end walls, E E, which are attached vertically to the ends of the rear pan. The roof or top F is suitably connected to the upper edges of the rear wall,

D, and end walls, E E, and it has attached at its front edge a downwardly and forwardly i11- clined wall or hood, G, provided with triangular end pieces, H H, which are fitted against the end walls, E E, as shown. Triangular end pieces, I I, are secured vertically to the ends of the front pan, B, and their upper ends or edges are secured detachably by thumb-screws J J, or in any suitable manner, to the lower edges of the end pieces of the hood or wall G. An inclined front, K, is secured to the edges of the end pieces, I, and to the upper front edge of the front pan, B. The upper edge of the said inclined front may be secured detaehably to the bottom edge of the front wall or hood, G, which latter is provided with a flange, L, overlapping the said inclined front wall, K. By this construction it will be seen that by detaching the fastening or connecting screws or other connections the front pan, B, with its attachments, may be lifted and set within the rear pan and easing, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, thus folding the frame or casing or reducing it to such a size or compass that it may be conveniently moved from place to place, and through ordinary doorways. By the above-described construct-ion of the casing or cabinet, as described, I do not only gain the portability of the same, but the bottom, being constructed of shallow pans, will be water-proof, and will not leak in case the bather should spill or splash water over from the tub; hence the device may be set up and used in any part of the house without danger of soiling the floor or destroying the carpets.

The front wall, K, of the casing may be provided with folding doors, or with doors of any suitable construction. 7 For the ingress and egress of the bather, I prefer, however, to provide a door, M, in one of the end walls, E.

The roof or top F of the apparatus is provided with a hinged ventilator, N, which may be provided with a glass or other transparent panel. The said ventilator may be raised for the purpose of causing the desired circulation.

The said cover has an opening, X, for the head of the bather, and a suitable cover, Y, is provided for the said opening when the bath is not in use,

An electro-medical battery may be arranged in the casing or cabinet of myimproved bath ing apparatus, as shown at A in the drawings. One or more shelves, B'-, may also be hinged to the rear wall, upon which the bather may recline after bathing or while being rubbed or dried by an attendant, These shelves are hinged to the rear wall, so that they may be readily folded up and out of the way when not in use.

The operation and advantages of this i11- vention will be readily understood from the foregoing descriptiomtaken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed. The" cabinet may be mounted upon rollers, so that it may be readily moved, and it may be folded, as described, so as to pass easily through any ordi nary doorway. The device may be used advantageously in private houses, in hospitals, and other institutions, 011 railroad-cars, steamboats, and ,in faet,in any place where it may be desired to enjoy the advantages of all kinds of baths.

The bath-tub, blankets, sprinkling-rack,and heater, as herein described and shown, will form the subject-matter of separate applications. I

A portable cabinet for bathing purposes, the bottom of whielf is composed of one or more shallow pans adapted to retain water that may be splashed over from the bath tub or fitted between the end walls of the pan next behind, substantially as set forth.

Aportable cabinet forbathing purposes, consisting, essentially, of bottom pans adapted to be nested together, a rear wall secured vertieally to the rear edge of the rear pan, end walls secured vertically to the ends of the rear pan, a top secured to said rear and end walls. a hood depending from the front edge of said top and having "triangular end pieces, end A walls, and a front wall secured to the ends and front edge of the front pan, and connected detaehably to the end walls of the rear pan and to the hood, and suitable means for ingress an d egress and for ventilation, substantially as set forth.

5. The combination, with a portable cabinet for bathing purposes, having its bottom con structed of two or more shallow pans adapted to be nested together, of a bath-tub arranged to fit in or between the sides of the rear pan, substantially as set forth.
