Be it known that we, JAcoB Z. LINDLEY and JOHN V. ELDER, citizens of the United States, both residing at Lamar, in the county of Barton and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stove-Pipes, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to improvements in pipes or tubes for conducting away the smoke'v and products of combustion from stoves and other similar devices; and the object is to inspecification and the drawingsannexed, which -form part of .the specification.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional view; and Fig. 2 a plan of three sections of pipe with our improvements applied thereto, shown in position ina thimble supported in a stove-pipe hole. Figs. 3, 4, 5, and 6 are detail views separately;

In each of the views similar letters of reference are employed to indicate corresponding ,parts wherever they occur.

B is a thimble, formed by preference of wrought sheet-iron, to the inside of which is riveted internally, toward Vits end b, one or more straps of metal, B, which are bent down behind the brick-work A, as shown in Fig. 1, for the purpose of preventing the withdrawal of the thimble B from the hole A.

C, C', and C2 are three sections of pipe, which are held in position by means and'in the manner hereinafter to be fully explained. rlhe sections C we have shown .connected to the thimble B by means of a strap, D, which at one end is hinged to the inside ofthe thimble B, as clearly shown at x, Fig. 2, in dotted line, where the end d3 is inserted into a slot in B and bent over, while its opposite end is provided with a slot, d, through which and a hole sired, by means of a nut, E. The sections C and C areshown connected together by a strap, D; but in this case the strap is not tion O, while its other end, slotted at d, is ar.- ranged to slide on ascreW-bolt passing through a hole in the section C and said slot d. The bolt E is retained in position by a screw-nut, E. The sections C and C are shown connected together by a slotted strap or extension, D, similar to that shown for the purpose of'connecting the section C with the thimble B. Although We have only shown three straight sections of pipe connected together according to our invention7 we can with equal facility use it for bent or curved sections or elbows.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim7 and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination, with a pair of sections of stove-pipe. of a sliding slotted strap or exi'or the purpose of holding the said sections in position, substantially as and for the purpose described.

2. The combination, with a pair of sections of stove or other similar pipe, of a sliding slotted strap held in position by a bindingscrew or equivalent nieans, and provided with an inclined spring extension or wedge7 substantially as shown and described.
