UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MICHAEL SCHOLL, OFSAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
cHlMNEY-CAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 293,526, dated February 12, 1884.
Application led Mayl, IESS. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Beit known. that I, MICHAEL SoHoLL, a citizen ofthe United Statesresiding at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a new and useful Chimney-Cap, of which the following Y is a specification.
form the curvatures A A, and the four arms or points B B of the cap C. Each of the arms or points is perforated with one or more holes, D, through the medium of which the cap is fastened to the stack or chimney-pot, and thus my cap-plate is formed and made readyto be applied.
In practice, the arms or points are bent downward, so as to form four semi-oval or truncated oval openings, F, of exact dimensions, while the body of the plate presents a dat or crown-like appearance, as shown in Fig. 1. It will thus be seen that the wind from all points of the compass will pass through the openings unobstructed and create a constant and equal draft in the chimney to which my device is `attached at all times. The crown or cap is attached to the stack or chimney-pot by rivets, pins, orscrews E, and the openings or draft-holes made larger'or smaller by drawing down or raising up the cap or arms, and
fastening through the upper or lower holes,as
Vholes or take-up slots may be multiplied in number and packed together one upon another inbundles as dat sheets for use or for sale when wanted, thus occupying but little space.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim,1 andv desire yto secure by LettersPatent. 1s-
1. The metallic blank C, having four arms or points, B B, the sides of which are formed by the curvatures A A, substantially as described. l
2. A chimney-cap composed of the metallic `blank C,having four perforated arms orpoints, B, with curved sides, said arms being bent down, as shown, and connected to the chimney pot or stack, whereby fourv truncated oval openings, F F, of equal dimensions are formed, Substantially as described. i
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
'MICHAEL SCHOLL. [L s] W'itnesses:
