'3 Claims. (Cl. 40-111) This invention relates to a continuous yearly calendar. More particularly this invention relates to a cylindrical calendar having thereabout in continuous order the days of a year by weeks and by months.
It is an object of this invention to provide a calendar device comprising a yearly calendar having readily available thereon all the dates of a year.
It is another object of this invention to provide a calendar device embodying a yearly calendar rotatably mounted thereon to have readily available any date of the current year.
It is a more specific object of this invention to provide a calendar device embodying a cylindrical member having indicia thereabout comprising a yearly calendar having the days of a year in continuous order by weeks and by months, said cylindrical member being rotatably mounted on a base portion and retained thereon whereby any portion of said calendar may be readily observed.
These and other objects and advantages of the invention will be fully set forth in the following description made in connection with the accompanying drawing in which like reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views and in which:
Fig. 1 is a view in perspective of applicants device in operating position;
Fig. 2 is a view in central vertical section taken on line 2--2 of Fig. 1 as indicated by the arrows;
Fig. 3 is a view in transverse section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2 as indicated by the arrows;
Fig. 4 is a view in horizontal section taken on line 44 of Fig. 2 as indicated by the arrows; and
Fig. 5 is a view in perspective of a portion of applicants device.
With reference to the drawing, the applicant's device as shown comprises a base portion 10. Said base portion 7 may be variously formed but ishere illustrated as being parallelepiped in form having sides 11, ends 12 and a top portion 13. As indicated in the embodimentof the invention here illustrated, said member is shown having end portions 16 and 17 of solid construction with a space therebetween forming a chamber 20.
Said top portion 13 may be variously formed to accornmodate the cylindrical member hereinafter described, and as shown in its present'embodiment said top portion has a slot 22 therein substantially rectangular in form and communicating with said chamber 20.
Said end portions 16 and 17 have a cooperative relationship with said slot 22 to accommodate and support said hereinafter described cylindrical member. As here illustrated, said end portions 16 and 17 adjacent either end of said slot 22 respectively have recesses or grooves 25 and 26 therein extending transversely of said slot and close thereto and respectively have disposed therein roller bearings 27 and 28. Said bearings are here shown as being mounted freely in said grooves.
A hereinafter mentioned cylindrical member 30 is pronited States. Patent I 2,933,846 Patented Apr-a 26, .1960
'ice
2 vided-=of small. thickness' and 'of substantial-diameter and b'e'ingeof a width-substantiallythe widthof? said slot 22 and 2 being adapted to have a portionathereof" disposed in said slot 22. The portion of said cylinder 30 disposed in said slot 22-Wi1l engage saidcbearin'gs 27'and 28 and be supported thereon and willrb'e freelyrotatable thereon.
Said cylinder 30 will have a calendar thereabout. Said calendar may be formed in various ways. In the embodiment of the invention here illustrated said calendar is formed of a strip of sheet material 35 which will be secured about said cylinder 30 by a suitable adhesive and will have imprinted thereon indicia 36 comprising a yearly calendar showing the days of a year in continuous unbroken order by weeks and months.
Said cylindrical member may be rotatably retained mounted on said slot 22 in various ways. As here indicated a member 40 is provided overlying the portion of said cylinder 30 which is disposed in said slot 22 and overlying the central transverse portion of said slot to form a retaining member to hold said cylinder in operating position in said slot. Said retaining member 40 may be secured to said base portion in various ways, but as here shown it has depending end'portions 41 and 42 adapted to frictionally engage side walls 11 of said base portion 10. Said depending portions 41 and 42 are here illustrated having somewhat bulging inner sides to be disposed respectively in recesses 45 and 46 provided in said sides 11. Said member 40 and its depending sides 41 and 4-2 will be formed of a somewhat resilient material. Said retaining member 40 will be of a width sufficiently less than the length of said slot 22 to provide a slot of sufiicient width at either side thereof as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 to permit an easy rotation of said cylinder 30.
The operation of applicants device is quite obvious from the above description thereof. Said cylinder 30 may be rotatedat suitable intervals to have on the facing side thereof a sufiicient portion of the calendar thereon to show the current month and at least the full month prior thereto and subsequent thereto. The calendar for the entire year is available for ready use and reference may very readily be made to any date on said calendar by the very convenient rotation of said cylinder 30.
Thus it is seen that I have provided a very simply con structed and novel calendar device having great utility and serving additionally as a very nice ornamental fixture.
It will, of course, be understood that various changes may be made in the form, details, arrangement and proportions of the parts without departing from the scope of applicants invention, which, generally stated consists in a device capable of carrying out the objects above set forth in the parts and combinations of parts disclosed and defined in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A calendar device having in combination a base portion substantially parallelepiped in form, an elongated slot extending centrally and longitudinally in said base portion, a transverse recess in each end of said slot adjacent the upper portion thereof, a bearing carried in each of said recesses, a cylindrical member having a length substantially the width of said slot positioned on said base portion and adapted to have a portion disposed in said slot to engage and be supported by said bearings, 21 plate member extending centrally transversely of said slot for removably retaining said cylindrical member in said position on said base portion, and calendar indicia about said cylindrical member.
2. A calendar device having in combination, a base portion, a substantially rectangular slot in said base portion, a cylindrical member adapted to have a portion thereof disposed in said 'slot to be supported therein and F I rotatable therethrough, a member removably carried by said base portion overlying the central portion of said slot for retaining said cylindrical member in said slot,
said second mentioned .rnember ha ingIdepending-eiid 6 portions ateither side of said baseportio'nffor frictionally engaging the samejand indicia about said cylindrical mcm' ber. t I
