Be it known that I, WILLIAMA. SrNsnL, a citizen of the United States, residing at V-aukesha, in the county of Waukesha and State of Visconsin, have `invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Cord Fasteners, of which the following is a description.

My invention relates to devices for fastening cords to window-sashes; and it has for its object to provide means whereby a cord may be iirmly held,without being tied, independently of the means used forsecuring the holding dcvice to the sash.

To this end my invention consistsin a device having a body, a cap therefor, and a screw, forming a cord-clamp, and means for securing the saine to a sash, as hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the aecompanying drawings, in which- Figure lis a perspective view of my sash-cord fastener, showing the cap removed and the unper portion broken oit and .placed to the left ofthe body. c represents the main portion or body of the fastener cast ot metal in the form of a trough `'bridged over at c?, and provided with elevated ribs e. The trough should correspond to the size of the cord to be held therein, and I pro- .vide it withraised ribs e, to be pressedvinto the cord across its line of draft, to resist pulling the cord out of the clamp. The clamp is formed by means of a mate or cap trough, c', formed to register withtrough c, as follows: Trough `c is provided with a complete arch or bridge,

The operation ofsecuring a cord in this clamp is as follows: The end of the cord, being insert-- ed beneath bridge c2 from its out end, is drawn in and placed against the inner end of ledge Z).- The cap c is nowplaced by first inserting the lip j beneath the bridge, and th en pressing the lower end against the body and turning in fa "or around the cord.

The exterior form of the device is cylindrical, wherebyit'is adapted to enter a socket bored into a sash at its upper end, or to enter a groove in the edge of thesash extending out at the top.

For the purpose of placing the fastener into its seat when the sash is in place in the window, whether said seat be a round hole or a groove, I provide the fastener with a long shank, d?, `bent at its` top r/ at a right angle to rest on top of or be mortised into the top of the sash. I provide this offset with a down- `wardly-projecting spur, h, to enter the sash to keep said top end in place when the device is applied in a groove in the sash. For the sake of stiffness or strength the shank may be ribbed at its edges, or trough-shaped, as au upward continuation of the body-trough for the cord to lie in.

At the lower end of the device I provide a hole, f, into which I insert a pin, E, through the sash from its inner edge inside of the plane of theglass. By this means my fastener may first be secured to the sash-cord, then be pushed down into its seat while the sash is in piace in the window, and then be secured in its seat by inserting pin E.

Thus my device isa complete clamp, and

holds firmly to the cord independently of its surroundings, and it may, with the cord already attached, be applied to or removed from either a grooved or bored sash while the same is in place in the window.

Having thus described my i11vcntion,what I g to secure by Letters Patent,

1. The combination, with a sash-cord fastener having a hole through its lower end edgewise with the sash, and an upward-projecting shank with an angular end, providedl with a fixed spur, of a pin adapted to enter the aforesaid hole from the inner edge of the sash, substantially as shown and described.

2. Atrough-shaped body-piece having al bridge arching over it, forming a complete cylinder, in combination with im arched cap having :n lip shaped to bbeneath said bridge, l(ind a screwsT for holding said cap to said body, whereby the body and cap, joined, form 2L cylinder, as described.

3. A trough-shaped body-piece having i bridge arching over it near one end, and aledge rising above the sides of said trough near the otherend, in combination With atrough-shaped cup having :L lip at e113 end to fit under said 1o bridge, and a ledge near the other end, the sides of the trough rising above saidledge,and a screw adapted to enter holes in said body and cap at said ledges, as shown and described.
