A further-ohject of the invention is the provision of a body attached pen and pencil case and retractingmeanoin which there is also provided means for covering the pen t anti-pencil when not in use thereby-preventingdamage or soiling-of thegarments of the user.

The hood 33 is provided adjacent the forward end thereof, with strap means 40 for securing the device to the wrist of the user and the strap means 40 may well comprise one part 41 having a buckle 42 attached to the end thereof and another part 43 having eyelets 44 therein for receiving the tongue 45 of the buckle 42 in order to permit convenient adjustment of the strap means 40. The portion 43 of the strap means 40 may also be provided with a reinforcing and protective flap 46 which may be secured to the inner portion of the part 43 by the eyelets 44 or may be secured thereto in any other desired with the tube 14 and the tube 15 is providedwith in- ,wardly and rearwardly extending prongs 26 and 27 adj'acent the juncture of the fingers 22 and 23 with the tube 15. A unitary retracting mechanism 28 is removably disposed between the spring fingers and 21 and the retracting mechanism 28' is provided with a flexible element extending through a longitudinal aperture in a bumper 29 of yieldable material disposed in engagement with'the prongs '24 and and the flexible element is attached to the rear' end of the pen 16. Similarly, a retracting mechanism 30 is releasably positioned between the spring fingers 22 and 23 on the tube 15 and aflexible element extends through a longitudinal aperture in a yieldable bumper member31 disposed in engagement with the prongs 26 and 27. The flexible memher from the retracting mechanism 30 is secured to the rear end of the pencil 17 disposed in the tube 15. The bumper member29 and 31 may be formed of yieldable material, such as leather or the like and such'bumper members may be engaged by the rear ends of the pen and pencil 16 and 17, or'by a loop or other fastening means 32 on the rear end of the pen and pencil 16 and 17 in order to cushion the same during retraction, of the pen and pencil within'the

14 and 15. The retractingmechanisms 28 and 30 may be of the type shown and ,tligsscribed in my prior Patent #2,755,772, issued July 24, The

14 and 15 need not he removed from the device for repairs or servicing of the retracting mechanism and the like, the hood 33 may if desired,- be permanently secured to the base 10 by any suitable means.

37 and 38 and on the rear end of the base 10 in order to removably secure the

37 and 38 in place. When it is desired. to remove ,or replace ,the retracting mechanisms 28 and 30, as well as the pen and pencil 16 and 17, it is only necessary to release the snap means 39 thereby releasing the

37 and 38, at which time the same may be folded back to expose the retracting mechanisms 28 and 30 which may beremoved from between the spring fingers and thereafter the bumpers 29 and 31, as well asthe pen and pencil 16 and 17 removed from the

tubes

14 and 15. These elements may be. replaced in the same manner and the

37 and 38 moved to covering position and secured in place by engagement of the snap means 39. In this way, the retracting mechanism, as well as the penand pencil may manner adjacentone end of the .flap 46 and the opposite end 47 of the flap 46 extends beneath the body'10 and is free. tween the wrist of the user and the body 10 and will thereby operate to smooth. out any irregularities in the lower surface of the body 10 thereby providing a comfortable engagement with the wrist of the user.

The forward end 12 of the body 10 may be folded back upon itself, as best shown in Fig. 2, to provide pockets 48 for receiving the forward ends of the pen and in order to permit convenient engagement of the same with the forward ends of the pen and pencil 16 and 17 and in order to improve the flexibility of the forward end 12 of the body 10, there may be provided a triangular cutout 51 substantially midway between the pockets 48, which as best shown in Fig. 2, will permit the material of the forward portion of the body 10 to flex or yield during operation of the device.

As will be seen, the wedge members 11 elevate the forward ends of the

tubes

14 and 15 above the body 10 and consequently, materially space the forward ends of the pen and pencil Hand 17 from the back of the hand of theuser and when it is desired to utilize either the pen or pencil 16 and 17, the same may be pulled forwardly from the

tubes

14 and 15 byf'one hand of the user and grasped in the fingers of the hand of the user to which the device is attached. Upon completing the writing operation, it is merely necessary to release the pen or pencil 16 and 17 whereupon the retracting mechanism will pull the same rearwardly within the

tubes

14 and 15, such movement being materially facilitated by the flared forward ends 18 and 19 ofthe

tubes

14 and 15.

It will be apparent that the above described invention may be conveniently and economically manufactured in a variety of styles, materials and colors and that the same provides a convenient case for a pen and pencil without in any way impeding theuse thereof and likewise, provides a means for automatically retracting such pen or pencil into thecase after use thereof. There is, likewise, 35'

provided, as described above, a cover-means for protecting thepoints of the pen and pencil to prevent soiling or damage 'of the apparel of the user andobviou'sly, the invention may be conveniently worn on the arm inside the sleeve of the user and completely shielded from view. Inaddition, the structure permits removal and replacement of the retracting mechanism, as well as the pen or in use.

.R will be obvious to those skilled in'the art that various changes may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit and scope thereof and therefore the invention is .not limited by that which is shown in the drawing and described in the specification, but only as indicated in the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

A writing accessory of the character described comprising an elongated generally rectangular base of pliable material, an elongated wedge member secured to the upper surface of said base longitudinally thereof, the thick endof said wedge member being spaced inwardly from the forward end of said base and the thin end of said wedge .member being spaced inwardly from the rear end of said base, an elongated tube disposed on said Wedge member with the forward end elevated above saidbase and providing a housing for a pen or pencil, a pen or pencil disposed in said housing, the wall ofsaid tube adjacent the forward end being flared to facilitate entry of said pen or pencil, resilient fingers extending longitudinally from the rear end of said tube, inwardly extending prongs in the wall of said tube adjacent the juncture of said fingers with said tube, a bumper comprising a plug of yieldable material removably disposed in the rear end of said tube in engagement with said prongs and having an axially extending aperture, a unitary retracting mechanism re- .movably retained between the fingers on "said tube and including a flexible element extending through the aperture in said bumper and secured to the rear end of said pen or pencil whereby said pen or pencil,,said bumper and said retracting mechanism may be removed and replaced from the rear end of said tube, a hood of pliable material disposed. over said tubes and attached to said base to secure saidtube in place on said wedge members,
