SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 292,007, dated. January 15, 1884:.

Be it known that I, WILLIAM HALEY, of Ravenna, Portage county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Molds for Pressed Glassware, of which the following is a specification.
Hy invention relates. to molds for pressed glassware having a hole through it, in which the plunger, while descending to shape the glass in the body, comes in close contact with the top of a plug and forces the plug down with it, and when the glass has been sufficiently pressed the plug is forced still farther down by means of a lever and the plunger lifted. A sliding sleeve on the plug and also two half-1i ngs hinged together are used in pressing glass into articles of peculiar shapes, such as those having annular recesses or flaring bottoms, as seen in a glass globe, for the screw to tighten against, and in various forms of lampburners.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure l is an elevation with a part of the bottom plate broken off, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section.
The plunger a and ring o may be attached to a press in the ordinary and well-known manner. When plunger a is being forced down into body I), and before the glass in the body is pressed, the plunger comes in contact with the top of plug 0, fitting the top very closely to prevent any glass from entering between plug 0 and plunger a. As the plunger continues to descend, it forces plug a down with it until the glass has been sufficiently pressed. Plunger a may then be drawn up and plug 0 forced still farther down by means of lever Z, for the purpose of partially withdrawing the plug (which is slightly tapered) from the glass before the latter has contracted too much by cooling. Lever Z is pivoted in the slotted side of bottom plate, (Z, and also ted for the purpose.

The purpose of sleeve 6 is to enlarge the diameter of the glass in the bottom of the mold in making glass articles which have flaring bottoms. When the article has been thus molded, and before the glass has materially contracted by cooling, sleeve 0 is to be drawn down away from the glass by pulling on sliding bar 6'.
The ring formed by two halfrings, s s, is used for the purpose of forming an annular recess or other depression in the outside of the glass. It is formed in two half-rings, that it may be opened to allow the pressed glass, when it has sufficiently cooled, to be removed from the mold.

I claim as my invention-- 1. In molds for pressed glassware, the plunger, in combination with a sliding plug to form an opening through the glass, having its upper end above the molten glass to be pressed,
and closely fitting the plunger while the lat ter is forcing down the plug and molding the glass, substantially as described.
