Description

PENAND PENCIL HOLDER Filed June 4, 1958 l I 7 5 if.; 1t l 6 '0"' d' Cyril J. Laredo 1N VEN TOR.
United Statesg Patent O 2,913,789 PEN AND PENCIL HOLDER i Cyril J. Loredo, Rio Linda, Calif. Application June 4, 1958, Serial No. 739,755 v z Claims. (ci. z410 The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in pencil or pen holders and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, novel means for mounting such writing instruments on the outside of a'shirt or other pocket, ready for convenient use at all times.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a holder or retainer of the aforementioned character which is adapted to accommodate a plurality of pens and pencils.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a pen or pencil holder of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, compact, of light weight, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof,'wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing a pen or pencil holder constructed in accordance with the present invention in use;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a view in horizontal section, taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1; and
Figure 4 is a rear perspective view of the member which is mounted on the pocket.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a corrugated or undulated plate 5 of suitable magnetizable metal. The plate 5, which may be of any desired dimensions, is adapted to be hung on the outside of the usual pocket 6 of a shirt 7, for example. Toward this end, the plate 5 is provided, on its upper edge, with a pair of integral clips 8 which are engageable in the pocket 6 over the top thereof. The plate 5 has formed transversely in its front face a pair of spaced, parallel, substantially V-shaped grooves or chani nels 9.
Reference character 1l) designates a mechanical pencil to be mounted on the plate 5. As shown to advantage i in Figure 3 of the drawing, the pencil 10 is engageable vertically in one of the corrugations 11 of the plate 5 and said pencil has mounted thereon at an intermediate point a permanent magnet in the form of a ring 12 adapted 2,913,789 Patented Nov. A24, 1959 ICC to cohere to said plate. Above and below the magnet 12 the pencil 10 is further provided with circumferential ribs 13 of substantially V-shaped cross-section which are engageable in the grooves or channels 9 of the plate 5.
It is thought that the use of the invention will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briey, the plate 5 is suspended on the pocket 6 through the medium of the clips 8. The pencil 10 is engaged longitudinally in one of the corrugations or undulations 11 of the plate 5 where it is removably secured in an obvious manner by the magnet 12. The ribs 13, engaged in the grooves or channels 9, anchor the pencil 10 against vertical sliding movement on the plate 5. Then, the corrugations or undulations 11 prevent the pencil from rolling on the plate 5.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
1. A holder for a writing instrument comprising: a plate of magnetizable metal including corrugations and further having parallel grooves therein traversing the corrugations, a magnetic ring on the writing instrument engageable with the plate in one of the corrugations thereof for removably securing said instrument thereon, and circumferential ribs on the writing instrument engageable in the grooves for anchoring said writing instrument against longitudinal movement on the plate.
2. A holder for a writing instrument comprising: a corrugated plate of magnetizable material having a plurality of grooves therein traversing the corrugations thereof, a magnetic ring mounted at an intermediate point on the writing instrument and engageable with the plate in one of the corrugations thereof for removably secur- References Cited in the file of this patent UNITED STATES PATENTS D. 81,435 Coby June 24, 1930 446,081 Schreiber Feb. l0, 1891 475,485 Campbell May 24, 1892 820,908 Bulrnan May 15, 1906 1,164,697 Alsop Dec. 2l, 1915 1,459,517 Sawyier June 19, 1923 1,649,225 Grundmann Nov. 15, 1927 2,100,007 Hauton Nov. 23, 1937 2,192,569 Williams Mar. 5, 1940 2,594,955 Markowitz Apr. 29, 1952 2,644,212.
