Description

` marked thereon, which form a part of this UNITED STATES PATENT*n OFFICE.
MOSES E. TRUE, OF BAIAVIA, NEW YORK.
SAW-HANDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 291,108, dated January 1, 185.4.
.Application Bled April 13, 1883.
To afZZ whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, MosEs E. TRUE, a citizen of theUnited States of America, residing at Batavia, in the county of Genesee and State of New York, have invented certain new andl useful Improvements in Saw-Handles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or Iigures of reference specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a vertical section transverse to the saw. Fig. 3 is an elevation, showing the end of the saw-blade and the handle partially unscrewed.-
My invention has for its obj ect to provide a strong and durable handle for crosscut-saws5 and it consists in the arrangement and combination of certain parts, which I will now proceed to describe.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
Referring to the drawings, A is the wooden handle, having the central threaded bore, B.
C is the saw-blade. D is a longitudinally- (No model.)
slotted clamping-rod having the screw-threaded end d. E is a ferrule having the lips or braces e, which engage with the sides of the saw-blade and hold the same firmly in position when the handle is screwed on.
To adjust the handle, the end of saw-blade is placed in the slot of the clamping-rod D, the ferrule E passed over the end of the rod D, so that the lips or braces c engage with the sides of the saw-blade, as shown in Fig. 3, and the Wooden handle screwed on the threaded end of said clamping-rod D.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim- In a handle for a crosscut-saw, the combination of the longitudinally-slotted clampingrod D, having the screw-threaded end d, the handle A, having the central threaded bore, B, and the ferrule E, having a smooth bore, and lips or braces e, engaging with the sides ofthe saw-blade, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MOSES E. TRUE.
