Description

(No Model.)
J. R. FRY, Jr.
CRANK 8088181188..
No. 290,565 Patented Dec. 18,1888.
2 WWW! UNITED STATES PATENT @rrrca JACOB a. FRY, JR, on SPRINGFIELD, OHIG.
CRANK-COUPLiNG.
SPECIFICATION forming partof Letters Patent No. 290,565, dated December 18, 1883.
Application filed October 24, 1883.
- To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J A0013 R. FRY, J r., a citizen of the United States, resident at Springfield, in the county of Clarke and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Crank-Couplings; and I do declare the following to bea full, clear, and exacp'de-e scription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure lof the drawings is arepresentation of a side elevation of the crank-coupling; Fig. 2, detail view.
This invention has relation to crank-coup lings; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of devices, as will be here-. and particularlythe eyes (1 d or e e, engaging the sleeve a, and is secured in place by a nut, h, so that the parts of the crank, which is a double or a triple crank, are separably connected, and when any (No model.)
i portion of it becomes broken its place may be easily and quickly supplied by a similar unbroken portion. All of the crank-bends are coupled in this way, and any number of bends that are practicable may be coupled in this way between the crank-journals. By employing this coupling the crank-bends may be aligned or set at the proper angles.
The facility with which a broken portion can be replaced and the case with which an adjustment of the crank-bends can be made render the coupling a cheap and desirable one in all places where H compound cranks are needed.
The couplings or connections are further secured by rivets or bolts passed through the interlocked sections; but this feature is not an essential one.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a crank-coupling, the combination, with 1 the coupling-sleeve having radially-arranged tenons on its ends, of the arms of the crankbends, provided with eyes having radiallyarranged recesses or seats on their inner faces, and the bolt and securing-nut for holding them in place together, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
