SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 290,486, dated December 18, 1883.

To ctl whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, WILLIAM F. SEMPLE, of Mount Vernon, in the county of Knox and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Inhal ers; and I do hereby declare the following t0 be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in inhalers; and it consists in certain features of construction, and in combination of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure lis a side elevation View of my improved inhaler. Fig. 2 is a side elevation View of the mechanism of the same removed from the container. Fig. 3 is an enlarged section in detail.
A represents a container, preferably of glass, and of the shape shown.
B is a cover, and has attached the inhalingtube b, the tubes C and D, and the stopper B', preferably of cork.
E is a pendent disk supported from the cover by the tubes G and D, and provided with one or more holes in the central part.

The tube D is closed at the bottom and passes through the cover, and is preferably bent as shown, and is attached at the outer end by the rubber tube d to the part d', known as a syringe-bulb. 7
F is a tube closed at its outer end and branching from the tube D, and has a small jet-orice, fi., on top, `inst in front of and at right auglesto a similar orifice, i', in the end of the bent tube f. These two tubes are preferably soldered together for mutual support, and the latter passes loosely' through one of the holes in the disk and extends to near the bottom of the container. This tube is preferably attached to the disk onone side of the hole through which it passes, to strengthen the parts.
The operation of the device is as follows: The medicine whose fumes it is desired to inhale is placed in the bottom of the container in sufficient quantities to cover the lower end of the tubes f. By compressing the bulb d', air is forced through the connected tubes and discharged through the jet-orifice i, which, by means of the relation of parts showmwill draw the medicine through the tube f and vaporize it in the chamber above the said disk, and from which chamber the patient may inhale the Vapor through the tube b.
It will be seen that all of the mechanism is attached to and supported by the cover, and
moving the cover.
The inhaling-tube b is provided at the outer end with an enlargement or bulb, b', of suitable shape to iit the nostril, so that, when desired, the patient may inhale through the nose.
Vhat I claim isu a 1. In an inhaler, the disk E, supported from the cover by the pipes C and D, and provided with an atomizer attached thereto, substantially as shown and described.
2. In an inhaler, the combination, with the pendent disk E, of the tubes F and f, attached to each other and to the disk, and provided with the jet-orifices i and t', substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
