1 Claim. (Cl. 24205.15)
The present invention generally relates to a slide fastener construction and more particularly to an attachment for a slide fastener slider which prevents the covering fold of cloth which normally overlies the tape and fastener elements of a slide fastener from becoming jammed into the slide fastener slider and between the slide fastener glide and the fastener elements.
An object of the present invention is to provide a spreading device in the form of a bar of one-piece construction secured across the top side of the slide fastener slider and extending alongside the same for the purpose of spreading the outside concealing fold of cloth, thus preventing the cloth from jamming into the slide fastener.
Other objects of the present invention will reside in its simplicity of construction, ease of attachment to conventional slide fasteners and its facility for carrying out its particular purpose.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of the present invention attached to a slide fastener or slider;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal, vertical sectional view along the longitudinal center line of the invention;
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially from the bottom portion of the invention and looking upwardly therefrom;
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the bar which is attached to the slide fastener.
Referring now specifically to the drawings, the numeral generally designates the attachment 10 which is adapted for attachment to a slide fastener slider generally designated by the numeral 12 which by its vertical movement will interlock the detachable fastener elements 14 which are usually secured to a tape 16 stitched to the cloth 18 of a garment or other facility for closing and opening wherein the cloth 18 is usually provided with a concealing fold 20 which will completely conceal the slide fastener construction when the slide fastener is closed su ntia y as i ustrated in F gu e 1' It is well known 2,904,868 Patented Sept. 22, 1959 that when the slider 12 is moved vertically, it sometimes occurs that the concealing fold 20 will become jammed therein by passage through the side slots 22 of the slide or the entrance area 24 for receiving the interlocking fastener elements 14.
The attachment 10 is substantially in the form of a U-shaped bar having a pair of converging legs 26 which terminate at their bottom ends in reversely bent portions 28 and extend upwardly alongside the main leg portions 26 as designated by the numeral 30 and terminate in underlying relation to an outwardly offset portion 32 at the upper ends of the legs 26 which interconnect the legs 26 with a transverse bight portion 34 which extends across the top side of the slider 12 and is secured thereto as by welding 36 immediately above the loop 38 which holds the handle 40 for actuating the slider 12. The leg portions 26 and 30 extend alongside the slider 12 and generally slidingly contact the tape 16 adjacent the side slots 22 for lifting the protective fold 20 away from the slider 12. The offset portion 32, in conjunction with the transverse bight portion 34, will effectively prevent entry of the protective fold 20 into the area 24, since it will lift the protective fold upwardly away from the slider 12, thus preventing the jamming of the slider 12 and damage to the concealing fold 20, thus providing long life to the slide fastener construction and also to the concealing fold 20 for providing a neater garment.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
In a slide fastener, the combination of a spreader and a slider having a handle and vertically disposed side slots comprising a generally U-shaped member having the legs thereof positioned adjacent said side slots of said slider for contacting the upper surface of a slide fastener tape, the bight portion of the member carried by and extending transversely across the slider adjacent the top thereof for sliding movement between the cloth and tape for lifting the cloth away from the slider, the legs of the U-shaped member terminating in reversely bent portions thus providing a smooth surface for facilitating downward movement of the slider for lifting the cloth away from the side slots of the slide fastener slider.
