2 Claims. (Cl. 128-145) This invention relates to ventilating apparatus and more particularly to a device supplying fresh outside air to a person within a building.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a fresh air breathing device that may be readily secured to the exterior side of a building wall and in which means are provided for supplying air from the outside of the building directly to an individual inside thereof and which has means for exhausting expelled air directly from the individual to the exterior of the building.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a fresh air breathing device of the above type whereby any individual may be supplied with fresh outside air at substantially any location in any type of enclosure that is comfortable, healthy, and which may be used for various health and industrial purposes.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a fresh air breathing device bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a fresh air breathing device made in accordance with the present invention in operative use;
Figure 2 is a transverse cross sectional view taken along line 22 of Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary view showing a part of the device shown in Figure 1.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a fresh air breathing device made in accordance with the present invention is shown in operative use. This device includes a breathing tube 14 that is vertically disposed upon the outside of an exterior wall 11 of any enclosure or building. The tube 14 is provided with vertically spaced fastening rings 13 that are secured to brackets 12, such as by nuts and bolts 15. These brackets 12 may be fastened in any desired manner such as by screws, to the wall 11.
As is more clearly shown in Figure 3, the breathing tube 14 is provided with a central notched portion 16, adjacent to which a partition 17 extends across the hollow interior thereof to divide the breathing tube into a lower inlet conduit 19 and an upper exhaust conduit 20. The top of the breathing tube 14 is provided with a ventilated type closure 22 so as to prevent the entrance of moisture, rain, and other foreign matter from the exterior of the building. A rigid supply tube 24 is secured to the lower portion of the central notch 16 in communication with the interior of the lower inlet conduit 19, as is a rigid exhaust tube 25 secured in communication with the interior of the upper exhaust conduit 20. These rigid tubes 24, 25 extend through the wall 11 of the building to any desired location therewithin. A flexible supply tube 26 is supported upon the inside end of the rigid supply tube 24, as is a flexible exhaust tube 27 secured to the inside end of the rigid exhaust tube 25.
A breathing mask 30 of any desired flexible material is provided with a securement strap 31 so that it may be fastened to the head 33 of the wearer. This mask 30 is provided with an outwardly extending inlet port 28 and an outlet port 29, to which the free ends of the flexible supply and exhaust tubes 26, 27, respectively, are secured.
in use, the breathing tube 14 is fastened in a vertical position as shown in Figure 1 and the rigid tubes 24, 25, extended through the wall 11 of the enclosure to any desired location. The mask 30 is then attached to the head of the wearer and the flexible tubes 26, 27, connected as shown. Since there is a natural draft created through the breathing tube, the fresh outside air passes upwardly through the bottom of the breathing tube into the inlet conduit 19 and into the mask 30. The warmer expelled air from the wearer passes through the exhaust tubes to the upper portion of the breathing tube 14 through which it is expelled outwardly through the upper exhaust conduit 20 and ventilated top 22. Of course, while there may be some tendency for air to pass inwardly through both the inlet conduit and exhaust conduit, as well as the tendency for air to pass outwardly through both the inlet conduit and outlet conduit, the natural draft caused by the difference in air temperature between the outside air and the breathing air expelled by the wearer, the aforementioned path of air will be predominant.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A fresh air breathing device, comprising, in combination, a breathing tube, a breathing mask, means dividing said breathing tube into a fresh air supply conduit and an exhaust conduit, and tubing means connecting said supply and exhaust conduits to said mask, said breathing tube comprising a hollow cylinder open at both ends, and said dividing means comprising a partition within said cylinder intermediate the ends thereof, said mask including a flexible member having an adjustable strap for fastening said flexible member to the face of a wearer, and an inlet port and an outlet port on the outside surface of said flexible member communicating with the inside thereof, said tubing means comprising a rigid supply tube connected to said cylinder in communication with said inlet conduit, a rigid exhaust tube connected to said cylinder in communication with said exhaust conduit, and flexible tubing connecting each of said rigid inlet and exhaust tubes to said respective inlet and exhaust ports.
2. The combination according to claim 1, further comprising brackets for securing said breathing tube to the outside of an exterior wall of a building, and said rigid inlet and exhaust tubes extending through said 'wall into said building.
