4 Claims. (Cl. 179-147) The object of this invention is to provide a desk microphone combined with a writing implement holding set in such a manner that the microphone as such is carnouflaged by the appearance of the writing implement holding set.
The essential characteristic of the microphone consists in the fact, that its casing is shaped like a ball and has means for removably mounting it upon a desk support, as well as support means for a writing implement.
To this end, the microphone casing housing the piezoelectric microphone is ballnshaped and is susceptible of being applied by its lower part to a suitable desk support.
The upper part, or cover, of the microphone casing supports a tubular frusto-conic'ial holder, adapted to serve as a support for a writing implement.
The camouiiaged desk microphone, according to this invention, includes a microphone unit having a peripheral portion and a sound receiving face portion. A casing encloses the microphone unit and has a bottom portion surrounding the microphone unit along the periphery thereof with said sound receiving face portion facing out wardly from this bottom portion, and the casing includes a top portion having sound passage openings arranged to secure the microphone unit in place in the casing and itself being detachably secured to the bottom portion. A camoullaging means is mounted on this top portion of the casing.
The microphone arrangement according to the invention is represented in the annexed drawing in a vertical section.
The bottom portion 1 of the casing of the microphone, together with the top portion 2 of the casing enclosing the piezoelectric microphone 3 are so shaped as fto form a ball adapted to be removably applied, with the intermediary of a tubular anchoring member, upon a horizontal supporting block 5.
Screwed onto the bottom portion l of the casing is the top portion Z having sound openings passages 12 therein. Held between the top portion 2 and the bottom portion 1 of the casing is the peripheral portion 3a of the microphone 3. The sound receiving face portion 3b faces outwardly from the bottom portion 1 of the casing.
The carnoutlaging means comprise an elongate socket member 6 mounted and arranged upon the top portion 2 of the casing in such a manner as to extend radially `from the central region of the casing. lt can thus be seen that the casing is substantially spherical and resembles a swivel joint. The bottom portion 1 of the casing is in the form of a semi-sphere and surrounds the microphone along its periphery.
The tubular anchoring member has an upper ilange 4 and a neck 4a externally threaded for screwing into the bottom portion 1. Further, its end 4b is internally threaded for receiving a tubular extension S. A nut 7 is screwed onto extension 8 to lock it to the anchoring member. The anchoring member has a lower flange 4c for securing the member to the supporting block 5. The
States rPatent ice tubular extension passes through the horizontal supporting plate 10 and is detachably secured thereto by wing nut 11 for holding the supporting block 5 onto plate 10. The cord enclosing the electric conductors, not shown, passes through the tubular anchoring member and will also pass through a hole made in the horizontal supporting plate 10 of the desk, should a ixed application of the support 5 to the said table be required.
Should, on the contrary, the said support 5 be placed on the desk for movement thereon, a groove 5a is provided in the bottom face of supporting block S for the passage of the cord.
On the top portion 2 of the casing a hole is provided for the application of an elongate pen socket member 6 having a suitable aperture, frusto-conical in shape, for instance, and adapted for the sliding into it of a writing implement 9.
Given the reduced dimensions of the microphone, it can also serve, when hidden in a drawer of the Idesk, for unobserved recording of a conversation.
l claim:
l. A camouaged desk microphone arrangement comprising in combination, a microphone unit having a peripheral portion and a sound receiving face portion; a casing for enclosing the microphone unit having a bottom portion surrounding said microphone unit along the periphery thereof with said sound receiving face portion facing outwardly from said botom portion, and a top portion having sound passage openings and arranged to secure said microphone unit in place in said casing and itself being detachably secured to said bottom portion; and camoutlaging means mounted on said top portion of the casing.

A camouaged desk microphone arrangement comprising in combination, a microphone unit having a peripheral portion and a sound receiving face portion; a casing for enclosing the microphone unit having a bottom portion surrounding said microphone unit along the periphery thereof with said sound receiving face portion facing outwardly from said bottom portion, and a top portion having sound passage openings and arranged to secure said microphone unit in place in said casing and itself being detachably secured to said bottom portion; and ca mouflaging means comprising an elongate pen socket member mounted and arranged upon said top portion of the casing so as to entend radially from the central region thereof.

A camouaged desk microphone arrangement, comprising in combination, a microphone unit having a peripneral portion and a sound receiving portion; a spherical casing resembling a swivel joint for enclosing the microphone unit having a semi-spherical bottom pontion surrounding said microphone unit along the periphery thereof with said sound receiving face portion facing outwardly from said bottom portion, and a complementary top portion having sound passage openings and arranged to secure said microphone unit in place in said casing and itself being detachably secured to said bottom portion; camouflaging means comprising an elongate pen socket member mounted and arranged upon said top portion of the casing so as to extend radially from the cenrtral region thereof.

A camouflaged desk microphone arrangement, comprising in combination, a microphone unit having a peripheral portion and sound receiving face portion; a spherical casing resembling a swivel joint for enclosing the microphone unit having a semi-spherical bottom portion surrounding said microphone unit along the periphery thereof with said sound receiving face pontion facing outwardly from said bottom portion, with a tapped hole provided in said bottom portion, and a complementary top portion having sound passage openings and arranged to secure said microphone unit in place in said casing and itselfl being detachably secured to said bottom portion; camouaging means comprising an elongate pen socket member mounted and arranged. upon said top portion of the' casingsoas to` extend 'radially'from' fthe central region 5 tl'r'ereof;'a tubularP anchoring member Vhaving externallil threadedA endportions, one yend`portion beingscrewed.
