LUOIUS L. GULVER, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
RANGE AND STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 289,988, dated December 11, 1883.
Application filed January 30, 1853. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
33, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a vertical section on line 4 4., Fig. 1; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the dampers or valves removed. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a stove with my improvement applied.
My invention relates to a means for regulating the heat in different parts of the oven, so that different articles requiring difl'erent iemperatures can be baked at'the same time;
- and my invention consists in the construction hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a part of the rear portion of the top of the range or stove; B, the back flue, with a central partition, B, oven-back B, and stove-back B, and O the exit.
D D represent dampers or valvesone on each side of the partition Bfor regulating the size of the exit 0. lhey are secured to the under side of the top of the range, preferably by stems E, extending up through slots F in the top of the range, and having buttons E on their upper ends. The slots allow the dampers to be moved endwise to regulate the size of the exit on either side of the range,,to control the draft, as stated. The dampers have extensions G, which act as bearings to support their forwardend, the stems being near the rear part of the bodies, and they alsi act to close the slots F when the dampers an closed. It will thus be seen that by closing one of the dampers the products of combus tion will be compelled to pass through th other side of the exit, and thus the tempera ture of the different parts of the oven can b governed, so that articles requiring differen degrees of temperature can be baked at th same time.
The dampers may be held from side move ment by ribs or flanges J on the under side 0 the range-top.
I claim as my invention 1. In a range or cooking-stove, the combi nation of the rear flue, B, a vertical partition B, dividing the flue B and located within it an exit, 0, receiving the upper end of 13111 partition and in line therewith, and two damp crs, D D, located one on each'side of the par tition, for optionally closing or opening eithe: outlet to the exit, as set forth.
2. In. a range or cooking-stove, the combi nation, with the rear flue having vertical par tition B, of the stove-top having exit 0 i1 line with the partition and slots F, and th dampers D D, having stems E extending 111 through the slots, and adapted to slide towar or away from the partition, to open or ClOS( opposite sides of the exit, as set forth.
3. In a range or cookingstove, the combi nation, with the rear flue, B, having vertica partition B. ofa stove-top having an exit. 0 in line with the partition and slots F, and th dampers D D, having extensiousG G for cov ering the slots, and adapted to close OPPOSlti sides of the exit, as set forth.
