Description

S A. HALLADAY.
. Heating Drum. N0. 63,720. Patented Apri! 9, 1867 N PETERS. FHOTO-LITHDGRAPHER, WASHINGTON D C SAMUEL A; HALL ADAY, OF MAHRILLA, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 63,720, dated/1pm? 9, 1867.
STOVE PIPE DRUM.
die tigrtnic ninth to iii tiger antes 33mm nit mating and of 1150 5mm.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY OONOERN:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL A. HALLADALof Marrilla, in the county oiErie, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement 'in Heating Rooms; and I do hereby declare that the following afull, clear, and. exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use tho-same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of thisspecification.
This invention relates to the manner in which the heated gases and products of combustion are retarded and made to part with their calorie; and the invention consists in making the flue through which the smoke and heated gases pass from thestove in a spiral form within a radiating cylinder, the cylinder itself being annular in form, or having an air-flue'passing through its centre; and in the manner in which the heatedair which passes through the air-flue is controlled; and also in, forming shelves or rims around the cylinder, as will be herein described.
Figure 1 represents a central vertical section of my heater through the line a: :2: of fig. 2, showing the spiral flue, Ste.
Figure 2 is a top view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
' A represents an inverted hollow arch, which has a short pieccet' pipe attached to it which fits upon the stove. This arch' forms a flue through which the gaseous products of combustion are conducted to the spiral flue within the heater. B is the outside drum; 0 is the hot-air flue. This flue commences within the arch A, at b, where the current of air enters. The current of air is discharged upward through the fine at d, or it is deflected by a damper, and is' made to'talte a lateral direction. The smoke and heated gases pass up from the stove into the inverted arch A and through the spiral flue D, which occupies the annular space between the drum and the air-flueO, and are discharged, through the collar E, into a pipe which conducts them into the chimney. F is a rod passing through the air-flue C near the top end, upon which there is a damper which closes the flue when it is desired to discharge the heated air into the room where the drum is placed. When the damper is open the air will be conducted into the room above. Through the upper portion of the air-flue 0 (below the damper) there are apertures for the discharge of the air laterally. G is a ring or band which surrounds the flue C, with apertures through it which correspond with those through the flue C, but by turning the band, (which is loose for the purpose,) the apertures through the flue are closed, or partially closed, as may be desired, so that by regulating the damper and this ring G only a portion of the air may be conveyed to the room above and a portion retained below, if desired. f represents rims or shelves around the outside of the drum, for the purpose of receiving various plates or dishes containing articles of food which are to be kept warm.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The inverted hollow arch A supporting the heater, its ends connecting the spiral flue D with the short pip a, for the passage of the products of combustion, as herein set forth for the purpose specified.
I claim the ring G and the shelves f, in combination with the flue C and the drum B, as and for the purposes set 'forth.
