Description

c. RABl-:R
PORTABLE SUPPORTS Filed Nov. 9, 1954 July 28, 1959 ATTORNEYS United AState swPatentO PORTABLE SUPPORTSk Christopher Raber,4 Willow Grove, Pa.; Anna S..Raber, executrix of said Christopher |Raber, deceased Application November 9, 1954, Serial No. 467,778 V- 2 Claims. (Cl. 21'18'6) The present device is related to supports for being detachably mounted upon door hinges and is more particularly directed to supports for various types of articles having means for detachably connecting the supports to hinges and particularly the pintle of such hinges of various sizes.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide an article support which can be quickly and easily attached to or detached from mounted hinges and which support connecting means can be connected to various sized hinges and hinge pintle heads.
A further and important object of the invention is to provide an economically producible article support which can readily be produced from metal, plastic or the "like and which provides for the support of one or more jarticles from such hinges Without interference to the opening and closing of doors supported thereby.
A still further and equally important object of the invention is to provide a connector for article supports which Ican be quickly and readily adjusted for attachment to hinges of various sizes and which connectors will retain the supports in an operable position by attachment to the hinges.
Further and important objects of the invention will be in part obvious and in part pointed out in the following detailed description ofthe accompanying drawings where- Fig. 1 is side elevation of a support according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on line 3 3 of Fig. l.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of a modiied form of the support having adjustable connecters for various sized hinges.
Fig. 5 is a vertical section taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a further vertical section taken on line 6-6 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 7 is a horizontal sectional view taken on line 7-7 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 8 is a further horizontal section taken on line 8-8 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 9 is a perspective view of a slide forming part of the support of Fig. 4.
Fig. 10 is a vertical section taken on line 10-.10 of Fig. 9.
Fig. 11 is a side elevation partly in section of a guide plug for the slide of Fig. 9.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings wherein like and corresponding parts are indicated by similar reference characters, in Figs.l 1, 2 and 3 there is shown a plate 96 formed with a series of hooks 97, 98 and 99, while the opposite edge thereof has a cupshaped pintle head receiving member '100 attached hereto. Said plate 96 further has an elongated slot '101 provided therein. A two-pie'ce member 102 shaped for receiving a pintle head has a key v103 slidably extending within slot 101, while the two pieces are connected by vso Patented `uly 28, 1959 2 screwsv104whereby the pressure ofthe pieces upon the plate 96 can be adjusted.
The support of Figs. 1-3 is mounted upon a hinge by l placing thefupper pintle head within cup 100 and sliding up themernber 102 against the lower pintle head whereupon a tightening of the screws 104 will draw the two parts of the member 102 against the lside of the plate 96 along side slot 101 whereupon said plate is caused to extend vertically with the hooks 97, 98, and 99 for supporting articles thereon. t R
In Figs. .4-11, inclusive, there is shown a modified form of support consisting of a relatively at plate `235 having fingers 236 and 237 extending therefrom. Said member also has a projection 238 extending from the top thereof which has substantially perpendicular straight tops and sides, while said member has an inwardly stepped portion 239 with the straight edge 240 extending substantially therefrom. substantially parallel to edge 240 in said member. A slide 242 having a split portion 243 in which is provided a cylindrical recess 244 is slidably mounted on said member, while a cylindrical plug 245 having a lateral opening 246 is mounted within said slot 241 and said recess 244. An opening 247 coinciding with opening 246 of said plug is provided through said slit and a projection 248 extends from one side of said slide. A connecter 249 having a substantially U-shaped recess into which extends said projection 248 is connected to said projection by a screw 250 in order that a semi-spherical pintle head engaging portion 251 extends therefrom.
Projection 238 of said member has an arm 252 of a U-shaped cross sectional conguration mounted with said projection extending therein and connected thereto by a screw. Arm 252 has a split ring 254 for receiving the upper pintle head of a hinge. A screw 25-5 extends through openings 246 and 247 and has a nut 256 for tightening said elements together for retaining slide 242 in any desired position along slot 241.
The support of Fig. 4 can be mounted upon a hinge by placing a pintle head thereof within the cap 254 and then moving slide 242 for positioning the semi-spherical portion 251 against the lower pintle head of the hinge. Tightem'ng of nut 256 draws slide 242 against the opposite face 0f plate '235 for retaining the slide in a desired position. A plug 245 slidable in `slot 241 is a guide for said slide.
The supports and connectors shown and described herein are thus capable of being attached or detached to mounted hinges and can be moved from place to place for attachment to Ivarious hinges regardless of the size thereof. The devices are capable of considerable modification and such changes thereto as come within the scope of the appended claims are deemed to be a part of the invention.
What I lclaim is:
1. A support adapted to be detachably connected to door hinges comprising a plate having a plurality of hookshaped ngers formed therewith on one edge of said plate, a cup-shaped member'capable of receiving a hinge pintle head therein being mounted on an edge of said plate opposite to said fingers, said plate having a slot extending substantially parallel to said second mentioned edge, a second cup-shaped member capable of receiving the other pintle head of said hinge therein, said second member having a slot slidably receiving said plate therein and a key in said plate slot for guiding the movement of said second member along said second edge and means for tightening said second member to said plate at desired positions therealong whereby said cup-shaped members can be adjustably positioned relative to one another.
2. A support adapted to be detachably connected to In addition an elongated slot 241 is formed` door hinges comprising a plate having a plurality of hookshaped fingers formed therewith along an edge thereof, a ring-shaped member mounted on said plate capable of receiving a 4hinge pintlerfhead therethrough land extending from said plate in an opposite direction tosaid ngers, s aid platehavirngja slot providedtherein, aqslide hav/ing a sidel recess with said Aplate slidably positioned therein, a screw in threaded engagement with Asaid slide and eX- tending through said plate slot for at ,times tightening said slide vagainst said Yplate for being retained .at 1desired positions therealong and guiding said slide along said slot when loosened, and a cup-shaped Vmember mounted on said slide and extending in aY direction op-V posite to said ngers for receiving the vother pintle head of said hinge therein. t f
