WWA.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WINFIELI) G. SCOTT, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
WINDOW CURTAIN AND SHADE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 289,573, dated `December 4, 1883.
I Application tiled June 20, 1883. (No model.)
T0 all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WINEIELD G. Soorr, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vindow Curtains or Shades; and I do hereby de- Clare that thefollowing is a f ull, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to window curtains'or shades, and will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure l is an elevation of my improved curtain when lowered or open, and Fig. 2 is a like view of it when raised or closed. Fig. 3 is an elevation of a modification. .l
The body A of my improved curtain or shade may be of either "paper, cloth, or cloth-lined paper. Itis creased at regular intervals, as at a, so that the plane surfaces b may fold upon each other, and its lower end is weighted by a slat, c, of wood or other suitable material, while its upper edge is joined flexibly with a top support, B, which is recessed at B to receiveit. Each of the folds has two perforations, as at d d, and directly in line with them I perforate the top piece or support at d d, and the bottom slat at d2 d2, and through these perforations I run a cord, C, the two ends of which, after passing through the top piece, are joined together and hang down within easy reach. The top piece is to be secured to the upper part of the window-frame by any suitable means, and the cord, after being united as before mentioned, may be pass ed overa pul- 35 ley, F, as shown in Fig.` 3, so that its tassel can be reached from the side of the window, and a suitable button may be screwed or otherwise secured to one side of the window-frame, upon whichbutton the cord may be wound to secure the curtain or shade in place.
My curtains are not only neat and convenient when in place on windows, but are par ticularly adapted for being transported, asthe entire curtain may be folded into the recess in the top support, B, and the whole may be tightly packed with any number of others like it without danger of injury.
Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A vertically-moving curtain or shade, creased `and perforated as described, in combination with asupport, B, and a cord, C, as set forth.
2. The support B, recessed and perforated as described, in combination with the creased, perforated, vertically-movin g curtain or shade and the operating-cord C, as set forth. j
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, on this 26th day ofApril, 6o 1883, in the presence of two witnesses.
VIN FIELD G. SCOTT.
Witnesses S. S. S'roUr, H. G. UNDEEwooD.
