. Patent No. 3,781 of 1883, dated'the 2d day of August and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in sheaths for the protectionof razor-blades, and is especially useful for razors that are intended to be carried in the pocket, on account of their compact shape, and the impossibility of being cut through by pressure. They have also a very novel appearance, being a fac-simile of a razor-blade.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying sheet of drawings, in which Figure 1 represents the razor blade and tang. Fig. 2 is the sheath; and Fig. 3 is the razor, ready for use.
In carrying out my invention I make the razor-blade with a short straight tang, by preference slightly tapered, and temper and finish the blade in the usual manner, but without attaching to it any handle or scales. I make the sheath approximating to the shape or configuration of the razor-blade and tan preferably by casting it in suitable white desirable, or the sheath may be formed from sheet metal by stamping.) The core upon which the metallic sheath is cast leaves an shank or tang is insertedin the opening in' metal, (but, other substances may be used, if 5 the small end of the sheath, as shown in Fig. i
3, such combination of sheath and handle being a convenient means for holding the blade while shaving.
a is the blade; I), the tang; c, the sheath. The'same letters indicate similar parts in all the figures.
In conclusion, what I claim as of my inven:
tion, and desire to is A combined razor-sheath and razor-handle, corresponding in outline with the razor-blade and its tang, to which it is applied, and reprotcct by Letters Patent,
cessed for the reception of the razor-blade and its tang longitudinally, substantially as herein specified, for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have affixed hereto my signature in presence of two witnesses.
