Description

' 3 5 ing the arrangement ofthe curtain, as herein- 4o be made of any desired material, connectedin UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES M. MONTGOMERY, JR., OF COLUMBUS, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE OHIO CURTAIN CORNICE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
CORNICE.
i SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 289,299, dated November 2.7, 1883.
Application filed August 9, 1883. (No model.)
.To /tZZ 7,071,017?, it mrm/ nonwrn:
Be it known that I, J AMES M. MONTGOMERY,
Jr.. a citizen ofthe United States, and a resident of Columbus, in the county of Franklin i 5 and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cornices; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention,V which will enable others skilled in the art to 1o whichit appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, -Which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the end of my improved cornice. Fig. 2 is aview of one 'of the sliding hooks. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one-half of the cornice; and Figs. 4 ard are cross-sections on lines .fr x and g/ y, Fig. 3.
similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the iigures.
My invention has -relation to that class of cornices for doors, Windows, portires, and similar purposes Which have a longitudinal i bore opening through anarrower longitudinal slot upon the under side, for the reception of the headed shanks of a number of hooks `upon which the curtains or portires are hung, and which headed Shanks slidein the longitudinal 3o bore and slot; and it consists inthe improved construction and combination of parts of such a cornice in which the headed shanks ofthe hooks may loe adjusted in the bore, preventing them from sliding in the same and disturbafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings,.the letter A indicates the rear half, and A the fronthalf, of my improved cornice, both of which may anydesirable manner, and ornamented in any design, and both of Which have upon their inner meeting sides two longitudinal semi-v cylindrical grooves, forming, when connected, a cylindrical bore, B, opening at the under side of the cornice in alongitudinal slot, C. A number of recesses, B', forming a portion of a sphere, are formed in the under side of the longitudinal bore at intervals. and a number of balls, D, having the shanks E of a number of hooks, E', inserted into them, slide in the bore, the Shanks of the hooks projecting out through the longitudinal slot. The curtains are secured at their upper edges to these hooks. and the balls upon the shanks of the hooks may be slid in t-he bore until the folds of the curtain are arranged, when they may be placed resting in the recesses, which will prevent the accidental disarrangement of the curtain- I am aware that it is not new to have the headed shanks of the curtainvsupportinghooks sliding in a longitudinal bore in a cornice having a narrower longitudinal slot at the under side opening into said bore, and I do not wish to claim such construction; but
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the UnitedStates, is-
The combination ofa cornice having a longitudinal bore opening at its under side in a narrower slot, and having recesses at intervals in its under side, and movable blocks sliding' in said bore and adapted to t in the said recesses, and provided with curtain-supporting fastenings projecting through and sliding in the longitudinal slot, as and for the purpose shown Aand set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
